Went To The Beach Today & A Drag Race Broke Out (Lapeer)

Well, since I finally got the car tuned and everything in order I decided to go to the only track around that was still open, Lapeer. I had never been there before so I didn't know what to expect. Well, when in pulled in I was freaking out. I have never seen anything like that place. I am parking my car on a damp sandy lot, what the hell. How do they expect to have you go from a damp sandy lot to the track and expect that you could get a decent run? I guess I shouldn't complain. I got to run a new Z06 Vette back to back.

1 time I did what would be considered a long burn out by anyones standards. I expected to be able to get a 1.6? I got to the line, well, since there is no starting line, I got to the lights. I launched at 1/2 throttle and spun the tires up bad. The starting line was like a wash board. The Z06 was gone and I couldn't catch him.

Z06 ME
.605 1.029 Reaction LOL
2.09 1.76 60'
7.75 7.37 594'
8.21 7.83 1/8 Time
97.99 96.40 1/8 MPH
12.22 12.05 1/4 Time
121.83 116.31 1/4 MPH

We ran again one more time the next race. I put down my first 11 pass. It was an 11.98 at 116.42 MPH. All I can say is I could not hook worth anything. I had to lauch at no more than half throttle until I got to about the 80' mark than on the gas. So, I think there is a LOT more in the car than the 11.9 mark. I have run 1.6 60' at Milan before my tune. So, even just subtarcting that the car should be a 11.7 car. I guess we will have to see what happens in the spring time when the good tracks open.

I ran another 11.9 a few runs later at 116MPH. So, 2 out of the 4 runs were 11's, none of the runs could I get ANY kind of traction at the line thru about the 80' mark.

Oh well, I went, I ran, I didn't break!

Bill

Hey Dennis,

Bad 60's , 1.76 & 1.78 on the two 11 runs. The car spun bad even launching at 1/2 throttle, sucked.

Gave me pleasure beating the ZO6. No video. I went by myself.

Sorry to hear about yuor dad's trans. Is this happening under warranty? Will they replace it for free?

Later,

Bill

dennis, send me a pm. elaborate on whats goin on with dads car.

Bill, was that a brand new Z06? thats a helluva MPH out of that thing. in spring we'll bolt my rims on your car and see if it shifts right still and see what that thing will really do with some traction. Id say you should be saving up for a Chromoly drive shaft over the winter though.
but still congrats on making the first 11 sec. pass'. I know it feels great.

Lapeer is a dump!
A few years back I took my GSX-R1000 there for a few passes and left after 1 pass. Through the 1/4 at 147mph and almost bounced off the bike from all the huge dips and bumps. Thought I was done. And the timing system seemed a little optimistic, esp. on mph. I never saw more than 144 anywhere else.
At least you got in a little test, and getting it into the 11's off thier "fine prepped surface" is good for something.

Yep, this was brand new, no plate Z06. I know what you mean on the MPH. I think their timing MPH wise is a little off. I guess I will have to wait until the spring to really find out now. I would love to see what the car will do sticking it from the line. Your rims and tires would be cool. Since I went thru the trap at about 6600 rpm in third. What would happen with a taller tire? Reasoning in my head would say it would go thru at about 6400? Or do I have it backwards?

I will get a new drive sahft in the spring. Then toss on a 150 shot, LOL. I always wanted to get kicked of a track.

Thanks,

Bill

I saw bikes there that looked like they were driving on a wash board.

I agree, at least I got to test and didn't break. Oh yea, and hit the 11's.

Thanks,

Bill

yeah the 26" tires will bring down the rpms a bit. I was only at 5500rpm crossing the finish line on one of my pass' that I payed attention to, think that pass was one of the several 11.8x pass's. so it makes sense that your at 6600 because you have the shorter 3.89 gears, and shorter tires. go measure them. I bet there around 25" tall.

Say what you want about Lapeer, at least you can get more than 2 or 3 passes in.

True.. BUT it has more than its share of downfalls. And the ET there is usually generous compared to Milan or Ubly.

That's like an all-you-can-eat buffet that serves nasty food.

I heard a lot of people say the MPH was on the high side but the times were pretty accurate.

A good value is all the runs you care to make at Stanton on Wednesday nights for $15. And on a good, clean track.
