Valve adjustment... Which way do you prefer?
Sure cuts down cranking the engine over to do the old ex valve begins to opens, rotate another 1/4" of ex lifter travel, stop. Now Intake lifter is on heel of cam lobe and ready to lash.
REPEAT 7 more times to finish the Intakes.
Now do 8 ex valves in the same fashion.
???? either works good for hyd roller, solid roller is done like^^^

Are you sure your starting with #1 at TDC on the beginning of the cycle or are you on the compression stroke on #1 at tdc?
You want it to be at the beginning of the cycle as in the timing marks on the crank and cam timing gears facing each other.
All sbc's other than LS1 of course have a firing order of
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 >> 1955-1997

I started with #1 piston at the top of the stroke, and the dots on the gears facing each other.
then I was supposed to adjust Intake 1,2,5,7 and Exhaust 1,3,4,8
but #7 lifter was up out of the lifter bore, and #6 intake and exhaust looked like they were on the base too.
I did notice that when I started to rotate the engine that the #1 intake lifter started to come up out of the bore.
So I got out the Crane instructions and adjusted them like it said.
Rotate engine til exhaust valve just starts to open and adjust the intake for zero lash and give it another 1/2 turn
Then rotate the engine until the intake valve opens fully and closes about 2/3 and adjust the exhaust valve.
(I gave both a 1/4 turn past zero )
took about 15 minutes to do it that way.

thats how I do it. dont be suprised if you need to adj. them again after its up and running. I like to do it while running at that point. its messy, but you know you got it perfect that way.
