Post Traffic Lawyer/Insurance help

Guys..about a month ago..a buddy of mine ran into the wall on his motorcycle on 696...well of course i stopped to make sure he was alright..and i was thinking about splitting b4 the cops got there..but i decided id help out and give a report. Well when they asked me about it all..they asked for my license, reg, and insurance..well i didnt have insurance on the bike at that time for various reasons. Regardless...i should not of been asked for that info..i wasnt pulled over..i wasnt breaking any laws.. Sure i could see if i got pulled over..but i was making a ****ing police report. The ticket was givin by a state cop..but the city of Warren is handling it. its a 170$ ticket..any of you guys know any lawyers that could help me out? Or anyone have a insurance guy they've been with that could write me up form showing that i had insurance on that date? i really cant afford to go to court, with work, and school..its almost impossible! I wouldent have a problem paying it if i broke a law...i didnt do anything wrong.

Thats pretty sh!tty.A young guy tries to do the right thing and da man bends him over.Sorry to hear about your misfortune Cory.Good luck and I hope everything turns out good for ya.Was your friend alright after the wreck?? I had a 600 Ninja a couple of years ago.It was'nt fast by todays standards (or probably then either) but I just started getting stupid on it.I decided to sell it before I got killed on it. Ya definetly got watch out for "The other guy" when your on a bike.

I really should keep my mouth shut but I can't!
You said "I wouldent have a problem paying it if i broke a law...i didnt do anything wrong"
You DID break a law! Driving without insurance is illegal.
AND now you asking if someone can get you fake papers to cover your butt is asking someone else to break the law!

This is a sore (literally) subject for me. I was hit by a guy who didn't have insurance and I had to cover my $500 dollar deductable.
My best man for my wedding was hit head on by a drunk driver that also didn't have insurance. His girlfriend suffered knee and shoulder injuries that will give her problems for the rest of her life.
Sorry for my rant. I'll get off of my soap box.
Josh

Cory,

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with Josh's post above. I mean really it does make sense... not to be a d!ck or anything.

If I were you I would NOT be riding that bike without ins. You have a loan on it IIRC? Your financial institution will ask you to provide insurance declarations within 30 days. You will have to have full coverage showing them as the lienholder and loss payee. Failure to do so will result in them adding CPI (Collateral Protection Insurance) which only protects the bike, not you or anything you hit or damage or kill. This will also raise your loan payment as much as double, sometimes more. They can and will do this if the bike is held as collateral on the loan.

I used to handle some of the claims when I worked at a credit union.

Good luck man. Oh and pay the ticket. You're guilty as sin

Well im sorry to hear about all that josh...but for one..im not a drunk driver..so please dont try to look at me the same way. Mike i understand what your saying...but its not like i was out riding the bike all the time..the bike didnt have insurance on it cuz it was stored up at a buddys of mine... We were on our way home from his house when all of it happened. I dont think i could pay it now even if i wanted to... The ticket was due the 8th of august..and i asked for a court date. Can i still pay the ticket?

I honestly didn't put the part in about the drunk to insinuate (sp?) that you were a drunk driver. That's the truth. It's just a touchy subject with me. I had my NEW truck only 28 days when I was hit and it made me really mad 'cause the guy basically begged me to not call the police to make a report because he didn't have insurance. When I told him that it was leagally what I had to do he got mad at me! BTW: He never gave me the $500 and my only recourse would be to take him to court and that just wasn't worth my time. Good luck with it.
Usually, if you try to pay ticket late. They will just tack on a 20% late fee.

Michigan is a no fault state, regardless of who's fault it is, u still pay your deductible and would have to sue for the other person to pay it.. Correct??

Somewhat correct.
But, all insurance companies that I know of (Except Gieco) pay the other guys deductible if there client was at fault. I was hit in my OLD truck by a guy who had Gieco. I contacted Gieco and they faxed me there clients insurance coverage forms. The guy actually elected to save $2 and some change a month to not have the coverage. The coverage is called minitorte (sp?) coverage.
I had to take him to court, I needed the money that time.
How about this example.
You decided NOT to have insurance on your vehicle. While inocently (although illegally without insurance) driving down the street a child runs out (or rides a bike out) in front of your vehicle. You couldn't stop in time. You don't have any coverage for that child. Even if it is minor injuries it could still cost you thousands of dollars in hospital costs. If you had coverage, your insurance has "some" money for injuried parties from an accident.

Ya Cory, we're npt trying to rag on you or anything... to be perfectly honest with you I used to do the same stupid **** when I was younger. I learned my lesson though, and I think one day you will too. I just hope that you or anyone else don't get hurt when you figure it out.

As far as the bike goes, now that you've had some time on it, how do you like it? I've always liked riding but my take on the matter is you can't trust everyone in traffic not to screw up one way or another and i'm not willing to get hurt or killed over having a bike again.
