Time for a NEW ENGINE
Time for a NEW ENGINE
I think its time to yank that engine out. I am gonna go to the credit union and ask for a loan and use the car as collateral. Now heres the question. I want a big block (dreamweaver, haha) but I know thats not gonna happen unless I have 7,000 for a complete 454 or 502 built up. So I am leaning towards a more affordable small block. The car values at 4,000 almost. So I figure I can get a 4,000 loan and save up over the winter and maybe raise another 1000 working part time. So I will have 5,000 to play with POSSIBLY. I want to go with a crate engine since from what I have researched, its cheaper and the numbers are guarenteed that they offer. But what do u guys think? What could I get for 5,000 bones? My tranny is already built up with heavy duty **** so I don't have to worry about that going out unless I get real serious with the hp/tq. OPINIONS NEEDED or hell, if u know anyone selling a nice engine or know anyone that builds engines and sells them, give me their names and some of their products they built. Thanks for the help! I gotta get this turdgen movin!
Eric a Fast Burn 385 will be the best bang for the buck. I can't think of anything else right now, unless you want the EFI to go with it. Then I'd say go RamJet with a bigger cam like a ZZ409. It should stay within your budget or just a little higher. Don't forget you're going to need a better torque converter if you want to get serious about power.

Yeah carb or EFI? If I had choice of a RamJet 350 or a Carbed Fastburn 385 I'd do the Fastburn motor. The heads rule in comparison but I would go to a much bigger camshaft. A Comp Xtreme Energy 230/236 or 236/242 pattern would own
You'd be seeing higher RPMs also of course...Or Maybe just keep the crate motor cam for warranty reasons and be happy with that for a while. Once warranty is up go bigger on the cam and spray the daylights out of it.

I agree with Denny on this one, if you want to save money then go carb. I think carbs are less hassle, but I'm going to say I'm neutral on this one because this kind of thing always turns into a big EFI Vs. carb debate.
I am gonna have to agree with ya on that one. I am gonna go carb. I wish I could stay EFI but its to expensive and I am on a money crunch. :-/ I was looking at the Fast Burn 385. I like it a lot and ur right, with a bigger cam it would be sweet. At GMpartsdirect.com they are selling for 4,000. A 750 Holley carb is 300 and a fuel pressure regulator is 40. So for 4,340 bucks+ shipping i can make some pretty decent numbers. Dang, I am kinda exicted!

hey eric, if your serious, email me. I got a sweet deal you cant refuse. how about $3500 and I'll do the swap from my Iroc to your firebird. I'll include the complete exh. system, duals and all, full MSD ign, holley 750 carb, intake, we'll use your accessories and brackets though, but I'll include my LT1 ministarter/flexplate. you will need to buy a mallory return style regulator, about 3 feet of line, and a fuel splitter for the carb. my car ran 12.69 before I put the 3500 stall conv. back in, it should run in the low 12.2's or so. it is a 4 bolt block w/forged pistons. I was goin to put 125 shot of nitrous on it, but never got it done before I broke the trans. its just been sitting in limbo for about 6 weeks now cause Im buying a house and dont have the time/money to put into it. I really do but cant justify the time/cost right now. on top of all that, I'll garuantee it for the rest of the summer. if you blow it up, I'll do the labor to rebuild it, but you would supply the parts. whatever that may be. let me know.

I can find ya a complete LS1 with low miles, wiring, computer and everything for around 3000 if you needed one. Maybe even less, depends on how much time I have to find one. That would be one hell of a sleeper. Very

Coleman never looked for a job and thinks he is gonna make 50,000 starting so he will never find a job.
Puff never looked for a job until now and like u said, he isn't aggressive.
My car is paid off, I have no bills but my Apt.. I have one loan for college that has to be paid off after I graduate which will be in 1 1/2 years. I can pay off a 4,000 loan before then. I am seriously saving up now. No more parts for the Firebird. Its getting a new engine.
IrocSS85, I e-mailed u.
