Something to ponder (for you race freaks) LONG

Per IHRA and NHRA rule book...
Cyl heads porting,polishing,welding etc.PROHIBITED
Chamber mods PROHIBITED
must keep stock valve size and angle
following are PROHIBITED...
port grinding, flash removal, sandblasting, dry film coating of intake and exhaust runners, etc.
YOU CAN...use polylocks, jam nuts,screw-in studsbronze wall valve guides, and a max of 75% of seats replaced. Any valve spring that has the same general appearance of OEM for specific engine.
CAM AND LIFTERS....
must retain stock lift for horsepower claimed per IHRA/NHRA Tech Bulletins
Aftermarket OEM type replacement lifters permitted.
You can run ANY duration.

Our cars fit in the C/S and D/S classes. The class indexes for these cars are:
11.65 for C/Stock and 11.80 for D/Stock

and
11.70 for C/SA and 11.85 for D/SA (automatic cars)
Remember that these are hp/weight classifications and you can only move up or down one class which means no gutted interiors. Read the rest of the reqs. for stock eliminator classes(must retain stock interior)

My thoughts are... Are we wasting our money on aftermarket heads? Would we be better off spending that money on a different cam configuration and some suspension mods?
I realize that theses cars run steep gears and 4000-5000 rpm converters but most of our cars could run in the low 12's w/o buying different heads.
Sound logical???

Suspension is key to anything. You can make as much power as you want, but if you can't hook up, you can't win.

I have a few mods, but 90% is suspension items.
Once I finsh my suspension goodies, and get some more track time (only 1 run under my belt) I know I'll be in the 12s. And thats without taking the engine apart - just suspension.

They only things I have left are:
- Sway Bar
- TQ Arm
- Better/Bigger tires.

Those stockers are a trickey bunch. Stock LT4 and LS1 heads flow quite well, but these guys are pulling all sorts of tricks we don't know about. Also, you know the cams have to be custom ground for each guy's combination. So these are very specialized, "peaky" setups that would probably not be much fun at all on the street. Aftermarket heads and associated cams allow for broad torque curves (perfect for the street) without us having to getting everything exactly right.

Those "stock" cars are pretty much un-streetable. They're set up to do only one thing, and that's win in their class.

Don't some of us run upwards of 4000 stalls now? I know some run 12 bolts with 4.10's Some even run TH 350's too. The ONLY real difference between the Stock Eliminator cars and some of the ones on here is the cam, and some of the suspension work. Maybe the aftermarket PCM too. But for a low 12 high 11 car I wonder if we overkill by buying aftermarket heads. Just my thoughts. I'm going to shoot for high 11's without heads just to see if it can be done.

read this guys!

See what I mean? I've talked to a few guys who claim their cars run in the high 12's with NO mods. They have other people who will back them up. I believe them, no reason not to. One even had a feature done on their car in GMHP mag a while ago.

It all depends on what you are building your car for. If running Stock Eliminator type races is what you have in mind, than those are good rules to follow. If you are looking at running in the NMCA, OSCA, or even some of the PRO series races than youw ill deffinitely need to get in on those heads.

IF you know of another way to squeze 1400hp out of a 370ci motor I'm all ears. Not busted your a$$ or anything here, but every game has its own set of rules.

Yes. Detroit Metropolitan Airport is about 25 miles southwest of Downtown Detroit.
