Simple Question About MT ET Streets?

I am considering picking up a used set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets size 26 x 11.5 x 16. Will these tires fit on our stock Camaro 16 x 8 inch wide rims???

TIA for all replys!

Will they fit? Probably. Do you want to do it, no. Fitting the 11.5's on too small a rim will cause the tires to "cup" an actually give you less of a footprint with the track. Stick with the 10.5 for that size rim.

BTW: I've gone 11.7 a couple years ago on 10.5 x 16 E/T's with 1.6 60fts before I moved up to my 11.5 x 15's.

My friend had a set the same size on a set of Salad shooters under his 93Z fit with no problems. Then he sold them to my roomate with a 98 SS and they also fit under his with no problems and his was lowered a 1 1/2.FYI

Mark and James, thank you for the info! James, I am a bit confused about these size tires fitting on your roomates 98 SS. The SS's did come with the 17 x 9 inch rims, right? Did your roomate just have the SS but with a set of 16 x 8 inch rims for the ET Streets when he went racing?

Thanks again for all replys!

James, forgive the post shown above, duh Your friend sold BOTH the (salad shooter 16 x 8 inch) rims and tires to your roomate with the SS, right?

I havre this size tire on a 16*8 rim and it works fine. have gone a best 60' of 1.53. I have never had any cupping.

now, if you have a car with less than 450 hp, I would get the 10.5's, they will be plenty sticky enough.

how fast do you plan on going?

Yes, you'll be "ok" with that tire on that rim. Will it be optimal, no. This last year I ran a 12" Et Street and a 10" ET Drag (about the same width) on a 15x7.5" Convo Pro. Not optimal, but it was the rim that I had, so I rolled with it. It didn't seem to effect the 60's, a 1.41 on the 9 sec run in the sig. I am switching to a 10" rim for 04, so we'll see if there is any change for the better.

If you are getting them cheap, I wouldn't worry about it, & run them until you can afford to get the perfect size rim & tire combo. Good luck.

The smallest recommended rim size for those tires according to the sticker that came on the tires is 8" wide. So yes they will work.

Rod442 and Black Sunshine, thanks also for your replies! Rod442, my current "winter project" for my car is the porting and polishing of my stock LT1 heads. With the XE 230/236 cam I'm currently running, I'm hoping for 12.4/12.5 timeslips next year at about 112/114 MPH? I KNOW the 11.5's are probably overkill for my car, but as Black Sunshine said I'm getting them used for a good price and I only have the 16 x 8 rims to put them on. The 10.5's would certainly be more then enough tire for my mods, but you gotta take advantage of the "used tire sales" when you run across them, right? I'm really only hoping to improve on my best(to date), 1.99 60 ft. times with the drag radials after the heads go on, and the 6 speed beast should be even harding to launch?

Thanks again to all who replied!

Robvas, to answer your question, at least ONCE, eh?

Seriously though, there is no getting by the "Eagle Eyed" readers on this Michigan board. You are indeed correct, I have those 4.10 gears in a STOCK 10 bolt rear, so I know I'm taking my chances with the 6 speed, 4.10's and ET Streets. I'll definately try to keep the launches under 2800/3000 RPM, and hope the "shock" of launching the car gets (mostly?) absorbed by the "wrinkling" of those sidewalls on the ET Streets???

Wish me luck!

And, again, thanks to ALL who replied!

I have a set of salad shooters with 26x11.5" et streets on them. They have 2 tracks passes and one split steel ds to their name. They have m/t tubes and are screwed to the rims so they are probably the best setup you can go with as far as et streets on a salad shooter. If the other deal falls through, drop me a pm and I'll hook ya up.

Robvas, maybe the ONLY thing I have going for me when I try out these ET Streets is that, NO, I still have the stock STEEL driveshaft.

Sean, if this deal "falls through" I'll keep you in mind. I'm really hoping it doesn't though because MY check is already in the mail.

Everyone have a GREAT Christmas Holiday!
