Hey guys....just curious...I have been looking at hopping up my 2001 WS6.I was thinking about setting the engine up to handle a supercharger. I then talked a facility called Detroit Speed Works (Warren, MI). They suggested to go the route of a turbo. I gues my question is if any of you guys have ever delt with this facility before? What facilities in the South East Michigan area have you guys delt with for f-bodies and what have you done? Your opinions and suggestions on where to go and what to do. I plan on building my car up in stages. My first trip to the garage I am planning on spending about $4,500. The only thing changed on the car so far is a Loud-mouth cat-back. I appreciate all your guys help.

I'm sure there are about 30 different people on here that have nothing but good things to say about DSW.

Speedworks has many turbo f-bodies under their belt.
If you join Motown muscle ($25 a year) , you get a discount at Speedworks to.

not that i have heard anything bad about speedworks, but isn't the turbo kit they sell the turbo tech kit? from everything i have read about that kit/company's product from this board and others, alot of people have probs with fitament, etc.. do some research before laying down the big bucks. i hate it when you get something you have been waiting for and the end result just gets you . good luck

nj,
imo, I would go super rather than turbo just because the power is always there. Automotive Performance Engineering off of grosbeck hwy has a procharger kit that is basically a bolt on. No need to tap the oil pan. It produces 8lbs of boost I think. I will be putting this on my car as soon as I save up the money, the kit is 4800

Here goes another DSW vs. APE thread. Lets put it this way... ALL OF THE SHOPS IN THE METRO AREA are great, just don't go to CAR PRO MOTORSPORTS.

The only advantage the super has is no turbo lag. Turbo lag isn't really an issue on LS1 cars because you already have torque. However, turbo cars you can dial up or down the boost on demand. No pain in the @ss pulley swaps needed.

I have seen what turbo cars can do, and i have seen what supercharged cars can do. I'll take a tubo please (if I could afford it)

Rockwound...that kit for $4800 your talking about.. I assume that is the p-1sc procharger? You have any idea what the charge for an install...and the other things is, running 8 psi on a stock LS1...shouldnt I have the pistons changed also? Have heard nothing but trouble when you go over 6 PSI on LS1's...I appreciate all your guys help

ROADRAGE......you have any idea ballpark, what I should be looking at for having a turbo system installed (parts, labor, dyno/tune)? Im guessing $6000-$7000...similar to a SC setup? Any other suggestions on what to do?

The cost should be right in S/C territory. The turbos go for around the same as a S/C kit, and install should be near the same.

I am no expert by any means, but i have 5 friends with turbo LS1's I can think of off the top of my head. Most were right around 500 hp after a decent tune, with a stock engine. You may want to post on motownmuscle.com , Almost all of them are mebers on that board and they could be a lot more help.
