In addition to the Blazer, vehicles with the highest driver death rates were led by the Mitsubishi Mirage, a two-door, small-sized car from Mitsubishi Motors Corp. <7211.T>, GM's Pontiac Firebird sports car, the subcompact Kia Rio from Kia Motors Corp. <00270.KS> and the two-wheel-drive Kia Sportage compact SUV.
Driver death rates for those vehicles came in at 209, 205, 200 and 197, respectively.

You can get the full report here:

It's interesting to note that the "deathtrap" Blazer (I own a 4x4 ZR2, BTW) has a driver death rate of 308... but that is the 2 door 2 wheel drive . The 2door 4wd, which is more common has a rate of only 98. Kinda weird that the 2wd has a lot more deaths, especially rollovers
The Firebird scores 205, the Camaro gets a 186.
Of course, these stats do not reflect the whole picture, i.e. crash-worthiness. The IIHS stats have a whole lot of behaviour factors in there. Lets face it... according to the crash tests, the 4th gen F-bodies are pretty good (most have a 5 star rating for frontal impacts). But we all know that F-bodies aren't driven in the same way, by the same types of people who drive minivans.

I don't know about you guys but ive seen some pretty ffed up camaros on the board and in person andthe people ahve walked away from em no problem. I drove into a ditch hardly any damage 4 passengers, no one hurt. A friend flipped his hard top v6, walked away from it, another friend drove into the back of asemi truck didnt get a scratch, and i know of another friend who hit a guardrail straight on and didnt get hurt.
Aside from traction issues and of course excessive power, i think fbods are pretty safe. Decent brakes, handle well, lot of metal to protect you in the doors and the 5.7l block up front. Air bags and abs(even though its given me more trouble than good) and tcs (mine doesnt have it thankfully). I am very worried about taking mine out in the rain/snow because i fishtail and thats what put me in a ditch.
