Question for PayPal Users

I have a PayPal account and it's verified. I can make payments to people using either my credit card or the linked bank account. I thought I could accept payments from other PayPal users by any method, but apparently I can't. I am planning an event for our car club, and some people are paying me via PayPal. I've received two payments so far that were made by folks using credit cards, and PayPal wants me to upgrade my account to accept them. This is the message I got:

The ability to accept credit card funded payments is reserved for Premier and Business accounts. To accept this payment, please upgrade your account now.

If you upgrade your account, you will receive a range of premium features in addition to the ability to accept unlimited credit card payments. The fees on incoming payments are low - just 2.9% + $0.30 USD to receive payments. If you deny this payment, you may continue to receive money from PayPal members who use a bank account or their PayPal balance to fund the payment. To continue to receive payments for free, make sure that the people who pay you fund their payments with their PayPal balance or with a bank account.

Has anyone else done this? Will it cost me anything?

I have also heard of PayPal freezing people's accounts. That's why I opened a brand-new, separate bank account to link to my PayPal account. I keep little or no money in that account, so if they freeze my account and the bank account that goes with it, then I'm not in serious financial trouble.

As for the 2.9%, I might have to live with that. I can see myself doing more with eBay and PayPal in the future and sort of need it. I guess I just have to adjust my monetary amounts accordingly.

Thanks for the opinion. I'll look into the fees associated with changing my account to "Premiere".

Anybody else have an opinion?

Wow, some strong anti-PayPal opinions here! What happened to you, Iroc?

Purple,
they cant freeze your local bank account. what I meant was lets say you sell things on ebay and and have 800 dollars in your paypal account and for whatever reason paypal puts a hold on it. at that time you CAN NOT transfer the money to your bank account or use the paypal debit card they try to pawn off as a good thing. they are not a bank and are not FRIC insured or anything so they can pretty much write their own rules it seems like.
they suck

I haven't had a single problem w/Paypal yet. I usually ask for an extra couple bucks to cover fees etc.

I only use paypal to send money. I will under no circumstances use it to accept payments.

I've used PAYPAL since 1998 and never had a problem. I too, pay the three percent. How else do they make their money? It's worth it to me strictly for the convenience.

However, I am a little bugged by the incedible number of provisions and exceptions that they have in their rules. They obviously hire too many lawyers at that place. One of the things they wont let you use their service for is the sales and purchase of firearms or firearms related equipment. It seems to me that if you can buy something at Walmart, you should be able to pay for it with PAYPAL. I cannot buy a nice Weatherby hunting rifle online using PAYPAL, even if it's then shipped to my nearest FFL dealer using all BATF rules and regulations. That's just plain screwy, if not even discrimatory.
