Question Pro-built Automatics

Anyone here know anything of Pro-built Automatics? Found them on thirdgen.org and was impressed with some of their stuff. They are also quite active on the board with other members questions. They sell complete overhaul kits specializing in 700R4 and 4l60E. Say their parts will withstand 500-600hp. I am building trannies at home and just used a $250 kit from B&M that was nice but not as complete. I believe killerjello is my next job? Harold (Blacksunshine) sent him to me, thanks! Their kits range from $400-550 depending on heavy duty, street/strip or full race. Just wondering if anyone's been there!

Jason,

If you go out to Andy's place. You will have to ask him to see the collection.Andy does really great work.I have known him about 8 years now and we have done alot of stuff together on my car and truck that I used to have.Everything turned out great. He's one helluva guy.

James

P.S. He's really looking forward to me bringing my Mustang home so we can play with that.He says he's not but don't let him fool ya.

Ive got in a few arguments with pro built on the forums.
His claims of 500-600 HP are, in my opinion, bull****.I dont believe anyone can make a 700R4 handle 500 or 600 HP.
I had a trans with EVERYTHING in it, big dollar top of the line parts, blew it up in just over 2 months.
I told him multiple times, he wants to prove me wrong, send me a trans, if it dont break ill buy it.
My car makes 450+ RWHP and 700+ RWTQ. I switched to a TH-350 that joel did, aint had a single problem with it. I ble up 2 "professionally built" 700R4`s. Screw those transmissions unless you have a mid 12 sec car or slower.
Thats my opnion based on my experience, I could be wrong, but I have yet seen anything that would prove to me that I am wrong.

Thumbs up Dana is a good guy.

He's real smart and his customer service is great. I do a lot of parts business with him. I've been doing business with dana since 93.

Did you ever look into art carrs stuff? I know he has some stout over drive transmissions. I contacted him and got a quote on a 200r4 that he claimed would handle pretty much anything I could throw at it... I didn't look into the 700r4 because I wanted to avoid the extra weight and parasitic loss.

Man, I wish we had a trans tech forum to talk about this stuff I wonder how many people in the other forums have dealt with Pro-Built, but will never see the post in here...

Gear vendors is teh way to go, but its around $2000
Art Carr, ya, I called them and discussed a 200 4r, but it was too much, so I said screw it, went with the 350.

Thumbs up

I say thumbs up to a trans forum! Thirdgen.org has it set up nice to go right to a trans only section. It seems like it would be easier due to all the trans problems there are out there with these cars. Whenever you're ready Jason you can come out. I hope all goes well with Cottman's for you. Thanks for the compliments James but I am NOT looking forward to working on your...what is your other car? Ha ha! Some of you guys mentioned Art Carr but not B&M, are they not that reputable around here?

Just for ***** and grins I want to throw in another trans/parts manufacturer. TCI. has any one heard anything good bad or indifferent on these guys?? I think I saw in someone sig that there car had a busted Streetfighter in it.I personally have never heard good things about them but I have never personally used any of there products.Anybody heard anything?? How about Hughes?? They are right out here in Phoenix by where I go to school. They always make a strong showing at the local tracks (Firebird/Speedworld)Last weekend when I was at firebird they had a field of like 4 cars there running the Division 7 Super comp class.I got a chance to look at there cars close up and they were pretty trick. If there stuff is good enough for some 9.90 runs and quicker,it would be good enough for my car.Any Info?? But when it comes to convertors,I think I will stick with a Precision Industries "Vig" or a Yank.We will have to see what I can find when I am ready to do it.

I just recently installed a pro-built trans in my IROC, so far i love it, and Dana pretty much guaranteed me that i wouldn't break it, so we will see.
Willie (a cz28 and 3rdgen.org member) also has a pro-built trans in his daily driven 12.00sec, blown 305, emission legal i might add...and swears by Dana's work.

Dana told me that the parts that are being produced are much stronger now for the 700r4's, because of the demand. but they are still limited to about 650 ft.lbs of torque.
