Optispark this!!!
Did anybody see The 1996 z28 camaro in the may issue of GMHTP on page 36? The guy that owned it swapped the optispark to a standard MSD distributor.
Does anybody what kind of work was involved on that type of swap? I like to do that swap for when i eventually build a badass motor for the Z and get rid of the optispark crap.

I didn't see the mag, but I know that someone makes a carburated manifold for the LT1 that is setup to accept a distributor. I've never seen any fuel injection setups for LT1's that had a distributor, but I suppose if people can take a LT manifold and make it work on a Gen 1 engine, the the opposite is possiable too.
It's not too difficult to do it. But you have to yank the engine if you want to remove the distributor. You'd still need the Opti for signal if you're using the stock PCM too. But you'd benefit from not having the high-voltage going through it.
However... Why not go with a coil-pack system like a couple companies have put together. Hot Rod Hawk knows the details, but basically you use the Opti for signal, and LS1 coil-packs for the actual spark. It's even easier to do if you go with an aftermarket engine-management system like F.A.S.T. or DFI.

Bob Baily is the guy's name who put together the system. And he's local to the Detroit area.

coil pack setup would be pretty sweet too. i just thought i throw it out to see if any of the faster people on the board would benefit from something like this. also in the mag. i guess he had some funky crank trigger set up.
