I am in need of some new tires! My Falken Ziex, although giving me numerous 2.0 60' launches when fully inflated, have gone the way of the do-do.
I know a few guys are running Nitto's. What do you guys think of them for drag racing applications? Any suggestions on which ones I should get? tbyrnemotorsports has the 555R DR's for $139. What do you guys think of that price?

I'm running Nitto's as well. My worst 60' is about a 2.10, best is a 1.90. My car just lights em up though if I'm not incredibly patient. I'm going to switch to a 10" tire in the spring instead.
If you are looking for a street tire the BFG G-Force KDW's are pretty good.

Well, actually, I am not really looking for street tires. If I could run slicks on the street ya damn well better know I WOULD!
But since they are illegal and my buddy just got pulled over for it last week in his 68 SS, I can't. I want some friggin tires that are just mean at the track. I want to see some sub 2.0 60's. Nitto's aren't the way to go eh?

Alpine loves his nittos. I know they are the 16" ones, maybe 245-45-16's
I personally know that they work for him.
I wont go into exact times (That's his business, not mine) but they hook up fine even on sub 12 sec nitrous runs!

I have a set of 315/35/17 Nittos on my car and LOVE THEM!!!! Sub 2's are the common place with these. I went from 2.2 - 2.3's to 1.7 - 1.8's, I did get a converter also to help. I think they stick very well and are great for street or strip.
At the track I drop mine to about 19lbs and they hook great.
Just my .02 on the subject.

I have the 275/40/17's on mine and I cut a couple of low 1.8 60' times with them last year at Stanton. I have heard that the BFG drag radials hook better, but the Nitto's are better for street driving.

Brad, my old IROC ran the same ET and MPH as your car BUT I had Nitto Drags. 3.73 gears just like you, stock converter... 1.80 60 foot was the best at Stanton. Even a BAD track was below 2.0. I'd say average was 1.87-1.94'ish...
If you want slicks, get slicks on different rims. If you want traction AL the time, get the 245/50/16 Nitto Drags and mount them on your IROC rims...easy as pie. My 275's are almost gone. I'm gonna do the new 315
later man!

Denny, what rims were those that you had the 275's mounted on? I know they weren't the Iroc rims. Just wondering... I wanted to get some rims that I could mount some bigger tires on. The 245's are wide, yes..compared to other street cars, but I wanna get some serious rubber under this car and see what I can do.
They work great on the track. I use mine on the street as well. I have gotten a best 60 ft of 1.79 with them. After about 1 1/2 years they needed to be replaced (there was still tread left but they weren't hooking like they should), however I am on my 3rd summer with them.
I will be getting a new pair this month too, then a trip to St. Thomas.

I used to have a set of the BFG's and they were ok, but I like my Nitto's better. They lasted longer and hooked just as good (in my case they hooked better) as the BFG's. They were 275/50/15 and I just bought a new set the other day

I cant believe how well mine work. First few days they spun like crazy, but you gotta break them in. Once they broke in I cant believe it. With slicks on motor I cut 60 foots last year about in the 1.75 - 1.85 range, but that cause milan sux. On motor, id guess it would be within .05. I cant get it to spin more than 2 feet on motor with a dry burnout. If I do a VHT burnout, you can forget about spinning on motor. Car goes mid 12`s on motor and makes over 400 ft lbs at the rear tires on motor if that tells ya anything....oh 3.70 gear too.
On spray, with a VHT burnout it will wheel hop a little, but if I get out of the gas and back in it, it dont spin again and thats that. However, I havent had a chane to play around with tire pressure and id be willing to bet I could pull my front tires with the nittos.
Now I have see a set of 245/45/17`s I believe that didnt hook worth ****, till I had my way with the tires. They were on a stick shift car and he couldnt do a great burnout. After I put enough VHT down to keep the car in it while trying to do a burnout, the tires didnt spin but a few inches.......dumping the clutch at about 4000 on a 99 M6 SS, mods and 4.10. Car goes in the mid-high 12 range.
Bottom line.....when my pair wear out, ill be buying another set. Id prefer E.T. Streets over them, but its a neusance to change them all the time cause of rain. Nittos are GREAT in the rain SO LONG AS YOU KEEP THE RECOMMENDED TIRE PRESSURE IN THEM. If they are low, youll be sliding a bit.
Long post, but he asked

I ran Nitto DRs 275x40x17 last year for 40 runs at Stanton on the ARE Stage 2 Heads and Cam setup with stock 3.23s. If you drop the first 9 runs when I was finding the magic tire pressure of 19.5lbs, the next 31 runs averaged 1.847 for the 60' with a best of 1.760 and the worst a 1.924 spinner. For that matter pretty much all of the runs above 1.85 were me trying to find a good burnout technique. Once I got that down there were 11 runs in there of 1.76-1.798 for my rookie season.
So they can be decent when you find the sweet spot for your car. The BFG DR may be .04x (pulled out of the air
)better but that can't beat the Nittos for wear on the street. I put 5,600 miles on those tires right up to Dec 23rd including those 40 runs and never once got stuck in the snow. True, I couldn't make it up my inlaws' icey driveway and got taken to the cleaners for a pair of F-1s in Lansing, but I liked the Nittos.

If you are worried about getting caught in the rain, then get the NIttos. If you want ultimate traction, then get the ET Streets. Somewhere in the middle are the BFG. They are a great tire, however, they dont come with much tread, & they wear quicker, due to the soft compound. I tried all 3 tires last year, & wish I would have went straight to the ET's.
The Nittos were better in the rain, however, when it started rainin, I still took the car home, as it was not extremely comfortable riding with them on, one wrong blip of the throttle, & you will slide..
I've got the 315-17 still, if anyone is looking. They are down just to end of the little bit of tread that they come with, however, would be perfect for the track.
