New 9" On The Way

Man am I geeked about getting this thing! I just placed my order with Scott at Driveline Solutions.

Since I am running an A4 (currently with 3:23) and a 3800 stall I went with 3:89 gears. I hope this will pop me int the 11's with no problems. I ran a 12.07 at 111.68 mph about a week ago. That time was run high humidity and a little tire spin.

So, any ideas on how many .10s I should drop moving from 3:89's from 3:23s?

I would be happy as hell if I can get an 11.7 out of the car. I will also be dropping about 70lbs of audio equipment out of the rear end.

Can't wait to get the thing in the car!

Thanks,

Bill

There's some ups and downs you have to consider. The 70lbs your losing will definitely help some and so will the gears. On the other hand, you're adding weight with that rear end and it also eats more rwhp than the stock 10-bolt. It's really going to depend on how you launch. If you were spinning the drag radials with the 3.23 ratio, you're going to have a bigger challenge with the taller 3.89's. You might want to consider going to a slick. All in all....if you can get it to hook and maybe stall it up a little higher than you used to, I'd say you could drop a solid .2, maybe .3 seconds off your time. But, that's assuming the tires hold.

Time will tell... Thanks for your thoughts. It should be a lot more head snapping from a 20 mph roll with this new gear.

I heard the 9" eats about 3% more than a 12 bolt. Not sure how much more than a stock 10 bolt?

I suggested a Strange 12 bolt but Bill wants to spend his dollars locally and I applaud him for that. Will it cost him a little et? Maybe, but oh well.
When I took it down the track at Milan with a real good warm up on the tires it didn't spin at all. And I stalled it up as far as it could go which isn't as far as it should go. It's supposed to be a 3800 converter but it brake stalled well before 3000 and didn't flash any higher on launch.
Maybe when he puts the ET streets on he should go from an idle and try to get it to flash higher for a better launch. Vig's like that, maybe Fuddle's do too.

Thanks Al.... I thought about it and you are right. Driveline Solutions is local and they seem to have a very good rep. After reading up on it alot I decided 9". Even with a little more power loss it shuold overall wake my car up.

I may go from the Fuddle to A Vig converter depending on what happens after the new rear. I will take it to the track and play with it a bit and see what happens before I make any move.

I have tapped the money bucket for pretty much the last time this year with the 9". I may scrap enough to try a line lock.

Know anywhere to get rid of a great condition 10 bolt?

Thanks,

Bill

Re: New 9" On The Way

cool bill. just let me know when you get it done and the gears are broken in I'll bring up my et streets and we can try them on your car after you make a couple pass' with your street radials on there to see if we can get better traction.

s willis, it will bolt in directly, but the abs is different. so that part wont work together. however if you delete the abs...........

also you will need to swap your rear brakes onto his rear cause he's reusing the brakes for his new setup, I believe. almost sure the brake lines are the same. (the rubber one). the ebrake cables would hvae to be swapped over from your axle too. (just take the brakes off the axle before taking the axle out of the car and its no sweat, and no bleeding the brakes that way also)

If they both have ASR yes. 2 sensors one in each backing plate.
If they both don't have ASR yes. 1 sensor in center section.
If you don't care about your ABS working then either will work.
LS1 rears fit LT1 cars with just pulling the axles out to swap all of the brake hardware.
