Need help in descision from pros
ok, i was originally just goin to put a xe 230/236 cam in my 155,000 mile z28[
never rebuilt
] to hold me of for the summer, then as a winter project, rebuild and stroke it to a 383. Now i am debating wether or not to just get a junk lt1 engine and rebuild, stroke, cam, port that engine and drop it in mid summer. I mean since im doing all this work for the cam i might as well just do what i need the first time around, Right? Any suggestions from fellow michigan men would be great, thanks.

well, if you have the cash I'd say go with option b. If you go through the cam only side of it you won't be happy. You'll need to do springs too at a minimum, plus you'll not get full advantage of that cam with stock heads, exhaust, etc. You'll have a lot of expense wrapped up in it and ultimately will be doing it all over again later...
might as well do it once and save the headaches and double expenses... plus you can recoup a little bit of the expense when you sell the old one

Agree with Mike (Timberpup). I have a '97 shortblock with 28,000 miles on it sitting in my garage for just the same purpose! find yourself another shortblock, T/A Jack had one for sale locally, a real LOW mileage powderpuff.
Reason I don't change motors out is:
a) Original '94 engine in Redbird has only 35,800 miles.
2) Money tree got burned this winter to keep us warm, it was an ACCIDENT!
If looking for NEW parts to build a 383, I have them! That is when the money tree took the hit. If interested contact me, I'm having a spring sale!
What ever decision, good luck!
