My rear window is smashed to smithereens!

Last night I went out to South Haven to see the fireworks. A guy I used to work with and his wife have a house there, and then a condo on the beach that they rent out to people. Turns out a whole buncha people that I know were there. Anyway.

The traffic getting there wasn't bad, but trying to leave was insane. I've never seen so many cars trying to go somewhere all at once in my life. Must be what it's like trying to leave an area when a hurricane is coming. My friends offered that I could just sleep on the couch, but stupid me decided that I should try to go home.

It took me like 45 minutes to get from South Haven to Bangor, a drive that would normally take like 10 minutes. But after Bangor things started moving along a bit, and I thought it wouldn't be so bad.

I was really close to the intersection of M-43 and M-40 when I heard a big boom behind me. I turned around quickly and couldn't see out my rear window, so I pulled off into the parking lot of a Sunoco station. It was like 1:30 or 2:00 am by this time. I got out and looked and my whole rear window is in itty bitty pieces and crackling like a bowl of rice krispies.

It looks like a rock or some other projectile was thrown at it (or shot at it... like a BB gun maybe?) because where the impact spot is, that'd be one magic rock to have just flown there. Some ******* with nothing better to do...

I called home and my dad and brother got up and were coming to get me.

Meanwhile, there were officers in the intersection directing traffic through, so I went and talked to one of them. He said they'd come take a report from me as soon as they cleared the traffic up. So I went back to my car and waited.

Then an officer pulled in with two other cars, a Camry and a BMW roadster convertible. I went past them a short way back, they had bumped each other in the line of cars but it didn't look to me like anything was wrong with either car. I think the guy in the beamer was just being an ***. But anyway, when the officer was done I asked him if he could help me. He took a report for me and waited with me until my dad and brother came. (I didn't feel very safe waiting alone in the middle of the night. Best not to invite trouble.) He was really nice to me, which meant alot because I was really upset.

So, amazingly, we were able to get the car home without the rear window caving in. Tomorrow I'll call State Farm and see what's to be done about repairing it. My poor baby!! But at least there's no body damage, and I'm fine (other than being really upset).

I wish it was a 3rd gen glass you needed because I have one in the barn I have been trying to get rid of. I've even left it out in storms and it tips over and has never broken! Oh well, good luck.

Hey Purple, I was out there friday night & some drunken hillbilly jackhole was throwing M-80's at cars going by. It was the same spot as where your glass went ka-boom. We turned around in the Sunnoco station to go have a heart to heart with "jethro" but a cop was turning onto 43 from 40-we figured someone called the cops on him.

Sorry to hear about your glass. Some glass places will waive the deductable, so ya might want to shop around. Good luck!
