Local tuning...
So I'm looking into getting my car tuned for my heads/cam swap. I tried vector motorsports and they wanted $400. I thought dyno tuning was usually like 125/hour. How long does it take to tune a car? Mail order tunes are like $150, I'm not really wanting to spend $400. Is $400 the going rate?
My dads vette has had trans and idle problems for two years. His tuning was all done by CARS. It was in there at least a half dozen times. He was real discouraged and put the car up for sale. I told him to take it to Vector, what would it hurt. Kirk spent an hour on it, charged my dad $100, not on the dyno. His car has no issues anymore. I've always been happy with Kirk services, as well as people with CARS.
Just our experience. The car is still for sale, but runs perfect with no issues.

thanks for the input guys. I don't necessarily want dyno tuning. I want something like what the mail order guys offer, but locally. I just don't want to blow 400. I've seen guys with modified cars and a madz28 tune get their car on a dyno and net about 2 hp. I think those guys can get pretty darn close w/out a dyno.
yeah, dyno tunes run 400 and up.
well, if you dont want a dyno tune, next best thing would be LJ. seems like a great guy, talked to him several times. he's tunes lots of LT1 cars too. you'll have to check with him about his pricing. not sure anymore.
