Lets organize a Michigan caravan to NFME in May!!
Hi Jason & Chris, and everyone else on the Michigan board.
I really, really want to go to the National Fbody Motorsports Event this year with some friends off this board. Part of the fun of NFME is the organization of a caravan to travel from your home state to the location of the event. This year, NFME comes to Indianapolis Motorsports park, a mere 4.5 hours from Michigan. I suggest that if you have not attended one of these events, that you check out their website as well as some of the testaments of other CZ28.com members on the following link, located in the events forum:
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=430511
Since the event takes about $30,000 to organize, NFME volunteers need firm and serious commitments in the next few weeks from participants so that they can commit the $15K deposit it takes to cement the contract. If you feel like placing this event on your spring schedule (and I suggest you do), go over to the NFME forum, register, and state your intent to attend. With three full days of racing, this is the best bang for your buck when it comes to actual track time. Drag racing, road racing, autocrossing, parking lot surfing, car show, and four nights of parties. You wont want to miss this one.

p.s. Jason & Chris, could we somehow get the NFME thread placed where it might get more exposure? I think this is a worthy event.

Re: Lets organize a Michigan caravan to NFME in May!!
hey dan, Im trying to work it out so I can go, but its only a "chance I can go" at this point. if i cant take the time off work to go wed. mourning for the whole weekend, I'll try to get down there for fri. night and sat.'s activities. Id really love to try my hand at roadcourse racing. but I know you have to be there for the whole thing to get out on the road course. but I can poss. just show up for sat.s drag racing/car show hopefully if nothing else.
when i mapquest'd the drive, it said over 6 hours. I like the sounds of 4.5 much better. when are you thinking you'd have to leave by and on wednessday mourning?

It looks like the folks from Victory Racing engines are going to attend! So there's definitely going to be some Michigan folks there.
Chris, you have to do this event, it'll blow you away. One thing I want to do is find some actual race scales and run people's cars across them to compile some data. That way we can find out what weighs what and put to rest this myth that third-gens weigh more, or weigh less than the fourth-gen car.
So, anyone that reads this thread: You got some scales??? I want to do a weigh-off, maybe with some trophies or prizes or something.

Chris,
After reviewing our family finances, Laura and I agreed that NFME is a no-go this year for me. We've got a wedding to pay for, plus some unscheduled expenses like the Jeep axle repair and house repair. I'm also volunteering to be a temporary manager of a 100 acre horse farm with fifty head of thoroughbred racing horses for the summer while the owner gets double knee replacement. That will occupy most of my summer and leaves no time for NFME. Still, I hope you get to go. You wont regret attending! Registration is going to open at any time, probably this week. The hotel is taking reservations right now, and on the events forum you'll find people looking to share room expenses. Look up Glen Wanieo, he's really cool and makes a good roomie.

Eric and I plan to go down there, and we are going to see how many members of Team Victory we can get to roll down with us.
I've never been but gauging by past events it should be a good time.

I wish I could go, but I don't think I can swing the cash this year. Next year, though, I'm in! The entire thing sounds great! I hope the event comes back to Indy again... how many people can say they raced at IRP?
Re: Lets organize a Michigan caravan to NFME in May!!
It will most likely be in Memphis next year. we try to alternate it between Indy and Memphis and St Louis one time. (nice track REALLY expensive to rent)
I highly recomend the NFME , once you go you wont want to miss another one.

It sounds like NFME is good to go this year: They have 100 registrants and counting.
If you haven't registered and sent in your payment, it's time to do it now. The sweet spot is when there are 125 participants. You will have virtually unlimited access to the track and your time slip count will be limited only by how much fuel you bring with you.
Doug, are you bringing that big nitrous tank with refill hardware again this year?

More NFME news:
COMP Cams is now a contingency sponsor of the event, so if you participate, you stand to bring back some Comp sponsorship money.
In addition, there are some $1500 worth of prizes going up for raffle including stuff like electronic shift lights.
NFME is in a go/no go position and will either live or die in the next two days. They need about thirty more PAID participants to make the event reality.
So if you are thinking about going, you better start getting going or your decision will be made for you.
