Lapeer Dragway--Any Good?

After going to Milan last weekend and having a huge crowd turnout I was told to try Lapeer since its not usually busy like that. Now they also said track prep is pretty bad. Anyone with first hand experience there?

Lapeer is a dust bowl. Your timeslip will be 3-5mph faster. If you want to brag.

It's cool to run your car, but its not what you call a REAL track.

Why would it be faster? Dont they have the normal timing system like everyone else?

I never had as much problem as some of the people on here for traction, but the dirt does suck. Especially as your power levels go up.

When I had my 98 camaro, I ran maybe a .10 quicker and a mph more at lapeer than anywhere else. BUT it was getting to be fall, and the cooler air might have been the diff too.

quite a few people used to say the clocks are averaged differently to make the mph read high. the last 400' vs 600' - for example.

the last time I was there was 6-7 years ago, so take my input with a grain of salt

I've always heard bad stuff about Lapeer but I'll probably go there a few times before I take it to a "real" track so I can get some seat time and get the basics down.

lapeer

ive been there four times, where you park your car is dirt but the return lanes and staginging areas are cement. track prep isnt the greatest, ive heard you can pick up 2 tenths at other tracks such as Milian. The problem is you might only make 3 to 5 runs at Milian because of such a large crowd. Ive made 20 or so at Lapeer in the same amount of time. There is usually about 80 or so cars there on a nice day, Ive seen high 7 and 8 second cars run there, as well as front engine dragsters so it cant be that bad.

the track has a few bumps and dips in it. it cost the same if not more to run there. the bathrooms are gross. the owner is scared to use VHT or any other kind of track prep. the pits are dirt. but other than that, its a place to run your car at. I myself would rather drive to Mid Michigan or Milan and take my chances. lol

This pretty much sums up Lapeer. Don't even bother. I'm suprised the track is still open.

I heard a rumor that Lapeer moved the starting line a few years back, but never moved the finish line. True or not. I'd always have a crappy 60' and better mph than Milan or Ubly. Lapeer has NO time boards and you can't hear what other cars run over the speakers. Just a poor *** track. Its worth the little extra drive to Ubly or try to catch a private rental or NO ET at Milan.
