It's a word from the 50s and 60s (maybe even the 70s) that means a cruising area. Kind of like Gratiot or Woodward but in this case much smaller.

the Gut is Capital Ave, Michigan Ave, Washington Ave, all the old downtown streets in Lansing... Cedar street included. All the old brick streets are closed off for the show.
