I'm looking for a nice, late model 5'x8" (or so) enclosed cargo trailer. I want to spend +/- $1000. Michigan area.

Hey, thanks, Al. My son's band is taking a road trip in early April and they need something to haul their equipment. I figure I can buy something decent for less than a weekly U-haul rental.

We've been to Jackson, Ionia, Hastings, and lansing and haven't seen anything yet.

Call the trailer dealership up in Edmore and see if he has anything. He was way cheaper than the norm when I bought my enclosed car hauler.

 

Hi Al: Yes, I just did St. Johns, Mt. Pleasant, Clare, Farwell, and Cadillac and nada. I keep thinking with the economy in the s h i t t e r that someone would rather have cash than a trailer. Then again, the 5x8s are usually owned by crafters/art fair dealers and boy scout troops who aren't likely to be in a crunch like a guy using a larger one for a tool trailer. Then again, I haven't seen any 6x12 tandems for sale either. Strange.

Yes, I know the Edmore guy, but I don't want to buy new.

Search over. I bought a 2008 Haulmark Fusion. It's their lowest priced 5x8, but I couldn't find a used one anywhere. I figure I can use this one, and if need be, sell it and get most of my money back. Low supply = decent resale.

I found new 5x8s from $1400-$2100. I bought this one for $1350.

I also discovered A LOT of hidden or additional charges while shopping. Most of the best prices required factory pickup and most of them were hundreds or thousands of miles away. Also, used tires on trailers seems to be another trick to create a "low price." Buyer beware.

You're welcome. Yeah keep it nice and it'll bring new prices 5 years from now. I watched in awe at an auction as a ratty old one that needed repair went over the $1000 mark and walked away before it sold.

 

Not sure where you went to get the trailer, but the best prices on trailers are right here local in the Detroit area at Shores Trailer on 9 mile and I94. Best prices without driving down to the factory, which you end up saving next to nothing when you factor in your gas and time to get there and no hidden costs. Anyone needs a trailer you call us.
