What the hell is this thing? It says cluster simulater, has car options on it, but google brings up nothing, as well as ebay.. I got this in trade today for some aluminum, Guy said he knows it works, but has no use for it.

Want to get rid of it, but um, can't without knowning...

Any ideas? and if so what the hell is it worth...

It is used for testing the "telltales" and gauges or other functions of a gauge cluster. Basically, you can turn the idiot lights on and off and make the gauge needles sweep. If you have the right software and cables, you may even be able to reprogram the specific cluster it was designed for.

It's definitely a specialty item that would typically be used by the makers of an automobile gauge cluster. Maybe a junk yard or repair shop would want it?? Have no idea what it is worth. The fact that it says 800 simulator on it may mean it was built to test/program GMT800 (GM full size truck) gauge clusters. Just guessing, though.

yeah, its for testing clusters. but you dont have the right computer to hook it to? or adapter ends that would plug between the cluster and the switch board. I see an obdII port on it, so it has to be for something "newer" atleast. but what the hell are you goin to do with it? or anyone for that matter? my guess would be to call some of the companies around that do cluster repair and see if anyone is interested in it? then again, maybe you'll find the person that got rid of it to begin with.

How does the guy who traded it to you "know that it works" if he doesn't know what it does?

I'll guess and say that it is a cluster-f*ck.

What did you trade for it?

It makes for an interesting conversation piece.
