Post I Need a new job!

I've just about had it working for a damn retail store (Sears). I would like to get a job in the automotive field, since that's what I'm going to school for. I'm still going to school right now. Anyone know of places that are hiring? I really don't know where to begin to look. I don't have my degree yet, so that proably will hold me back. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Tyler

Re: I Need a new job!

are you getting into the service field? as in a technician? if so, you should go to all the dealerships in your area and talk to the managers. at my dealership, we hire students as assistants and work with the students around there school schedule while your in school. I think they get paid around $ 9 or $10 an hour, but your getting paid in the experience really. when I first started, I had my certifications, but no experience workin on cars as a job. only my hobby. I took a bunch of class's at a community college first though. then I hiredin as an assistant just to get the system down, and gain some experience. 6 months later I was on my own as a tech.. Ive been workin there now for 8.5 years and love it. the only drawbacks are buying tools is exp. sometimes, and it never ends. and long hours. I work from either 7-8am till 5-7pm. depending on the day and if we got work to stay late or not. but its cool being independent. as in the only thing I have a boss for is to approve extra time on certain jobs.
but anyways, if you talk to the dealership managers, they can recomend diff. programs for you that you can work, go to school, and get credit towards a degree for working. and we've had students that only worked between semesters and over summer, or only afternoons cause they had class in the mourning. its hard to find a job that'll do that sort of thing and be that flexible plus you get to know the business real good to make sure you really want to do it.
good luck man.

United States Navy... Seabees, CM rating, check it out. That is what I am, all I do all day is work on vehicles, COOL ****. Where else could you get all your certs PAID for, get put through a world class automotive technical school and get PAID for it? This TRUELY is where its at. If you want more info, I would be happy to shoot it your way. PM me.

Re: I Need a new job!

Thanks for your replies guys. I tried putting in my apps. to the Toledo, OH area car dealerships about a year an a half ago, but had no such luck hearing anything back from them at the time. I'll proably try it again, now that I have some automotive classes I have taken. I love working with cars, but I don't have much experience with them, except for like changing brakes and oil at my house. I'll just keep submitting my application all around to the dealers. Thanks again! Tyler

well, take it one step farther and ask to talk to the manager. maybe even call ahead and see if you can set up an apointment to talk with him/her cause they tend to be busy. the ones that dont offer any programs like that will just tell you and save you the time of fillin out the app.. cant hurt, and this day and age you need to be a little aggressive at looking for work. right?
