How Are Your @*$%#$ Insurance Rates?
How Are Your @*$%#$ Insurance Rates?
I just got my renewal in the mail on Saturday, and my rates are up another $120 this year. This is getting out of hand!! This car was $850/year when I bought it about 3-1/2 years ago, now it's $1,250. Aren't rates supposed to go DOWN as the car gets older?? This is for a 49 year old with a perfect driving record.
According to State Farm, there has been an increase in claims on Camaros (probably only V8's though). So, I'm calling them this morning, changing my coverage to fire & theft, and parking it until I decide what to do. You younger guys must be taking a beating on insurance.

I know what you mean Cap'n! I just got the wife's renewal in the mail Sat. Price went up $200 for her 97 Blazer. We went to Progressive and they told us they couldn't beat State Farms price for us (Go Figure!!!) We have 4 cars through them and the house ins. too (97 blazer,95 Z, '00 Xtreme (W/2.2L) and a 99 Grand Am.) So... they tell us we're getting a break for having more than one vehicle. Tha's a good one isn't it?

Check with Progressive insurance. I'm at $1920 a year for four vehicles, and that includes the $104 MCCA surcharge for each vehicle ($416 a year). I have a 2001 Chevy Venture WB edition, A '95 Grand Cherokee, the '84 Trans Am (liability only), and a 1989 Honda VTR interceptor (libility only).
FWIW, Michigan Catostrophic Claims Association (MCCA) fees have been going through the roof lately: My motorcycle policy is $75, and MCCA boosts the total cost to $179.
Ah, but that's the cost of having a 'zero risk' society where everyone is entitled to unlimited medical services, and no one is considered at fault for their driving mistakes.

..........I used to pay ~$2000/yr. on my dad's '89 Chev full size truck, but the rate went to $3200/yr. when I got the Camaro (had to change companies for that rate) but when I renewed in June, it went up to $4400/yr.!!!
I only have 3 speeding tickets on my record over the course of 5 years, and I was even "upgraded" to a 5-star driver, but my rate still went up about 34%?
I was told the same as you though.........."...the cost of claims for Camaros has gone up". Yeah,
.
Yeah I used to pay $130 a month for my Z28. Now its $150 and soon it will be up to almost $200. I'm 18 with a perfect driving record but because of my age I get d!cked. Its f*ckin ridiculous. Insurance is ridiculous period.
I'm 24 with maybe 2 points on my license (stupid speeding ticket I did not deserve) and my Z is insured on my parents' policy with State Farm. Counting the Z we have 5 vehicles insured with them, and then maybe the house too I'm not sure. I pay between $500 and $600 for full coverage on the Z for roughly 6 months (the summertime) and then around $100 for 6 months of storage only (the wintertime). Not sure what the deductible is, I'd have to get out my paperwork to check and I'm not at home right now.
But all in all, I don't think that's too bad.

Progressive was the best I could find when I bought my camaro, $1100/6 months in march. About 1 1/2 months after I sign up the jack my rates up to $1250 beacause my previous liability insurance coverage was not high enough. 22 yrs old 0 points in past 2 years(all the further back progressive goes for speeding/careless driving). After my birthday I'll be looking for another company when my "carless" driving ticket is officially off the record.
I don't know if State Farm and Farmers are two different insurance companies, but our family goes through Farmers I believe. Because the way everything is set up, I pay under $100/mo. for my insurance.
i spend pay 512/month for the SS and a Civic. I only have 1 speeding ticket which was for 5 over and i got that in the civic. Im 22 and my wife is 23 and we even get the house discount. We are going through Liberty Mutual. I did just get a quote through esurance.com for 350/month. I plan on swapping with them shortly
Well, after looking at everyone elses rates, I don't feel quite as bad now
They're still screwing us though. Since I also have the house, a new F-350, two quads and a trailer through them, you'd think they would appreciate me more!
