Thanks! in advance everybody!!

Re: HELP!! rotors are rusted on!!

smack it with a hammer back ON.... you probly have it cocked sideways a lil bit.

it just slips on and off.. but its a tight fit. if you get it crooked, it becomes jammed and wont come off.

the rust is because its bare metal exposed to the elements. nothing unusual. on the trucks that drive on the beach on the outer banks of NC, ive seen the rotors rust in half...the vains in the middle rust apart... but it takes years and years of driving in salt water for that to happen. no worries.

undo the tierod end so the spindle can turn and take a heavy sledge hammer and hit the rotor from behind, I just replaced the rotors on my 95 firebird and had to do this same thing. I ended up placing the tierod ends too

Re: HELP!! rotors are rusted on!!

When I replaced my rotors on the Expedition I was forced to to cut slots in the rotors with a reciprocating saw and split them in half with a chisel and hammer. I tried beating the first one off for over an hour and it did not work. Just make sure you do not cut into the brake mount or the steering knuckle. The second one came off in 10 minutes.

Re: HELP!! rotors are rusted on!!

I'v had this problem in the past. I like to take emery cloth, or medium sandpaper to the hub to remove the rust and and spray the hell outta it with wd-40 pb balster, etc. Give it a few good raps with a plastic dead blow hammer, hittin from the outside in on the brake pad surface like also stated be sure to see if you cocking the rotor on the hub. Just be sure that once you do get it off you clean the rust off good and you should have the problem in the future, some people like to grease the back sides of the rotors.

Later,
Greg

Re: HELP!! rotors are rusted on!!

yeah, the only way is with a BFH. hit from the backside towards the outside. hit it once and rotate the rotor around some, hit again, etc. have you tried pb blaster on the backside of the rotor, between the hub and rotor? thats where its rusted together. a brass hammer more then likely isnt enough. you need a minisledge or a deadblow hammer (plastic hammer filled with 2 lbs of sand), and you really need to whack it good sometimes. but it will come off.
