Help!

When im at WOT and my car is above say 3,700 rpms i get a very hard vibration from the gear box. It sounds kinda like grinding, but it never does it when im only gradually pressing the gas? Does it in the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift, it'll rattle the change in the cup holder it's so bad. Any ideas on what could be happening?

posted this in the transmission section anfd didnt get any replies thought i'd try my luck here,

tranny pump going out? I'm no tranny expert but doesn't it require different line pressure to shift at WOT than it does at part throttle cruising? If so, you may not be getting enough volume to your clutch packs and may be wearing out the steels. Dunno. Thats my guess.

Sounds like a broken trans mount.

Any way to test either of those without bringing it into a shop? Any idea how much those would cost to fix?

Just take the tranny crossmember off. The mount is attached to that. If it's broken or torn you'll know. My guess is that's what it is. I had the same problem.

It's the flat rectangular piece that runs under the tranny about mid to the rear of the transmission. It has two bolts on each side where it bolts to the bottom of the car, and I think 4 small ones in the center where the mount bolts to that peice. You only have to unbolt the bolts on either side though to get it off I think. Then you can just take the mount off the crossmember after it's out. Keep in mind your tranny will drop a little bit because you take this off so if you want to keep a jack under it to feel better go ahead. It won't hurt anything to hang there, just don't drive the car like that. You'll know right away if the mount is broken. Mine was in two halfs when I pulled it off.

when you crawled under the car could you tell the mount was broke? Looking at the physical appearence of mine today it didn't look cracked. Oh well we shall figure this out soon.

i did however notice the tranny is indeed hitting the floor, i could tell this because there was a piece of like grinded metal on floor above the tranny.

I couldn't tell that it was broke until I took the crossmember off. I didn't even know I needed one til I took it off and the mount fell in two pieces. Hopefully I can help you out this weekend, and everything should be good. Do you have a new mount already? Even if yours isn't broken it'll still be a good idea to install the new one.
