Helicoiling
Helicoiling
Any shop near Metro Detroit that can helicoil my #1 spark plug hole? It got cross threaded needless to say.
I dont feel good about doing it myself too. At least it is extremely easy to access it too with the slip on primary out of the way.
Edit: The spark plug is wiggling around and causing a little bit of noise so I'd like to do something about it soon.

Would you have a problem doing it with the head on the car?
If ya have the LT headers and the AIR crap off which i see you do i dont see it being too much of a problem just a lil time consuming getting it alinged @ the right angle you will have to bring it over here though im in the south end of DH near vanborn so not too far from ya. Whats up with your charging system? I could check that out too. Did you go with a new altenator if so from where???? Steven

Thats cool then my AIR is out but the crossover pipe is the only remnant. Yeah you're not far at all. I'm at the extreme north end of Dearborn Heights, about 11 houses from Joy Rd btw Tele and Beech Daly so its abotu a 10 min drive to Van Born, not bad at all.
Here's the story on my problem...my car has been losing charge steadily for over a week. My rebuilt alternator is from Auto Zone and my battery I got from Murrays is an AC Delco. Those got put in about 3 weeks ago. I sand down the metal ring connector that hooks to the back of the alt. and it charges fine then declines again. So somethings draining power. I'm going over the grounds and connections tomorrow and having the Battery/Alt/Starter all checked out. Tonight it was charging fine after sanding and when I got home I had to shut the car off and use the keys to open my house up to open the garage and put the car in. I started the car and the voltage went from about 14-15v (my gauge is slightly off from indiglo install so thats about where it would be) to 12v. I am just stumped, so if I dont figure it out on my own then I was going to take it to a shop but if you can help me out that would be cool, IF I need the help. Knowing me and this car I just might. Thanks a lot.

I am having the same problem. I just purchased a 220 amp alternator and my Optima battery is in good shape. I was hoping the alternator would do the trick but it has done nothing. Let me know what you find.

Well I didnt find out anything today. The battery is good and so is the alternator. I decided not to check the starter I'm sure its not te problem. I did tighten the nut on the electrical connection on the back of the alternator more and looked at the grounds. They are ok. For now everything is reading and working properly. BUT I think the problem is still there and the voltage is going back down. Its at a pace where its hard to notice. So I'm sick of ****ing with it and I'm going to take it somewhere to get checked out next week.
Steven-I tightened the plug back up with no problems, so I'll take a rain check on the helicoil work until the problem arises again if it does. If so, you'll be getting my call. Thanks.

I have some ideas on your charging problem bring it by id like to look @ a few things. Are you having problems with it restarting? I have some ideas for ya.If your plug was that loose and you know you damaged the threads in the head i would take cake of that soon before you blow the plug out like a rocket. Steven
Well I cleaned up the gounds and alternaor connection. I havent driven the car but I have started it up and seems perfect. triumph and I will go over it tomorrow just to check when I take it to him for the thread repair but I think its ok. Other than that, not much new.
