Got a ticket, need opinions/advice...
Fight it. I managed to talk a fly by ticket down from 83 in a 65 to a 70 in a 65 on a highway which is a fine and no points compared to a fine and 2 or 3 points. This was out in Taylortucky. I just contested the ticket, went in front of the magistrate and told him point blank I was speeding following a friend, yada yada yada and he just walked the ticket down to 5 over which is no points and a fine.
Just my $.02.
Just my $.02.

Nick, when I went to Court on the stop sign ticket, there was a lady there who swore that she was doing the speed limit, and didn't know why she got pulled over. The magistrate asked the officer if there were other vehicles in the area, and he admitted there was. Since it was 50-50, him claiming she was, she claiming she wasn't, the magistrate gave the defendant the benifit of the doubt, and dropped the ticket. I was surprised, because most magistrates do favor the cops. So, the moral is, you never know.

On Friday night I was on my way to visit an old friend of mine who now lives in the thumb. <snip>
So I was in the Lansing/Charlotte area and had taken a wrong turn on the highway so I was trying to figure out how to get back on I-69. <snip>
Anyway, he wrote me up for 80 in a 70 zone. My question is, would it get me anywhere to contest the citation? Any number of things could have happened... he could have read a different car and thought it was I, his equipment could be reading incorrectly (I've read that this is possible with vehicles like the taurus where the front end is kinda slopey).
He did give me directions how to get back on I-69 though, which was nice of him. *shrug*

You must have not batted your eyes at him enough if he gave you the full speed ticket.
I was going west on M-57 doing 72 in a 55 to M4 and got stopped by a State Trooper and he only wrote me up for 60 in a 55. Mainly because I was honest with him, I told him I had the cruise set just over 70 and that I was going to meet some friends and we were going drag racing. I even showed him my helmet.
So bottom line, always be honest with the police it is in your best interest.

I just saw on TV the other night a story about fighting tickets. They said you should allways fight a ticket. They said if he got you with a radar gun you should do this.
1 get the last date the gun was recallabrated. It has to be done every month or so.
2 the officer has to be certified every so many months on the gun.
3 get the name of the radar gun and see if there are updates and maintance has been performed.
All of these records are at the city hall and they have to give them to you if requested under the freedom of imformation act.
They said 9 times out of 10 one of the above will be out of date and the ticket will be thrown out of court.
Hopes this helps.

Take it to court. Even if you don't get a lawyer, it's worth a try. If he doesn't show, you can either set a new date, or have it dismised. I don;t think anyone has ever made a new court date so the cop could be there. I have always had good luck fighting them, I have never had a cop show up, for traffic violations that is. I got one for 75 in a 25, but he never showed up. Anyways, give it a try, you have nothing to lose.
