Funny/Sad story inside
Im such a dumbass. It was late OCT. and I just finished replacing a lower tie rod end on my 94Z. My buddy and me were on the way home from Autozone when my car started making a clunking sound, it was coming from the rear end, rear U-Joint area, and I was trying to get it home. Well it had been a bad week and I was really sick of things going wrong. You know how it is (I feel like Dilbert at my job, my girlfriend lives in GA, I am broke, and now something is up with my car). My buddy and I concluded that it was a bad U-Joint. Well what went through my mind next I may never know. The next few moments would set me back a crap load of cash, and countless nights in the garage. I was a few blocks from my house, turning right, sooo close to my house. I heard the clunk again, and started spinning the tires. Why did I spin the tires? I just went nuts! I knew what was going to happen, and it did. BAM!! CLUNK!! BAM BAM BAM BAM!!! The noise I heard was my rear-end seizing up the rear yoke blowing apart and my drive shaft slamming repeatedly against the bottom of my car. Holy crap I thought as I put the car in neutral, this is going to cost me. Well we towed my car the two blocks it was to my house and backed it into the garage. Where she has been ever since. My buddy and I have recently replaced my rear end, and have the drive shaft prepared to go in. One problem, the input shaft on my TCI street fighter trans is screwed. The male spline that runs the length of the trans is twisted. Its only about .010 of an inch but that is still enough to screw me over again. Anyways, this is where I sit. I just figured you guys could use a good laugh, as a dumn-*** play such as this deserves to be told.
Moral of the story: Dont be a dumbass.
Anyone willing to lend some advice as to the difficulty in changing a trans, or replacing a spline in one, or even has one for sale, feel free to lend away.
Thanks, Charlie

Man that sucks
Wow I am sorry to hear that. I dont know what it is, but something happens to our nornally sane and logical minds when our car is in jeopardy. I reacted on a stupid impulse, and the consequences were extraordinarly devestating. We should get a thread going with the dumbest things we have done. Infact, future readers list away, it would make us feel a little less dumb to know there are others out there that make these mistakes.

ok, my turn for a dummy story.
one day after putting my ratchet shifter in my Iroc i was adjusting the position of the cable at the trans end. well, I jacked it up, disconnected the cable, placed the shifter in neutral, then placed the trans in neutral by moving the lever on the side of the trans. after lining it up and bolting the cable back to the trans, I lowered the car being happy I had finished it. until I lowered the jack and the car hit the ground........then the car rolled forward about 12 feet right into my buddys fender. DOOOHHHH!!!
yup, the ground was on an incline and I had forgot to place the shifter back into park before lowering it. (or did I bother to chock the wheel while I was partially under it)

One of my Dumbass moments. I had a 95 S Blazer 4X4 as my daily driver. It had the Vortec in it.I had a flowmaster muffler put on it when the factory issued piece rotted out.The first day I had the exhaust on I was rolling out of work to go home and saw a friend in the parking lot.I threw the old shifter up into N to throw some revs at him so he could be scared of my newfound massive V-6 power.Well I hit Nuetral all right,Went right by it up on into Reverse while rolling at about 25-30 mph.Needless to say the rearend did'nt appreciate that to much and she gave up the ghost.I sheered 2 teeth off the pinion and felt like a champ.Talk about stupid. What a Dumbass.I could tell a million more dumbass stories like that.

Ouch
Have you noticed that it seems that every time a bit of misfortune comes our way, friends, family and the neighbor seem to drive by? As if the embarassment is not enough with strangers. I wasnt even lucky enough to see some hot chicks when I trashed mine.

Fortunatly I haven't done anything to the TA, but my neon before it has plenty of retard stories attatched to it. I think that the best one was running into the lamp post in the school parking lot that I knew was there, as I had driven past it 1000s of times before. That cost my insurance company $6500 + my $500 deductable. This is on a $5500- $6000 car at best!! I wish I had just gotten a check for $5500 and gotten a different car, esp since I am reminded repeatedly about that incident at every opportunity available and had a really hard time selling that thing.
A friend of mine did this...
How about seeing how fast you can drive in reverse down sidestreets and pulling L-turns? Well he did about 99 of them within 6 months or so. The 100th went bad when he hit a bump while trying to turn, causing the car to skip and not turn but a quarter or so, sending me (I mean my friend) sideways up a curb into a tree (and somehow I managed to hit that same tree twice in one motion). I (I mean my friend) just damaged the city's tree and promptly took off. Drove by an hour later so see people pointing in all different directions and looking very confused. Whoops!
Edit: Forgot to mention this was in a POS 92 lesabre which actually got wrecked a little over a month ago. I wouldn't dare do anything evil in my camaro...or would I?

I had a mishap with getting my car out of nuetral a few years ago at the woodward cruise. I was in my 1971 Mercury Cougar which was my baby, it had a 351c with plenty of torque and a c-3 tranny with the shifter on the floor. While barely moving on Woodward my car began to overheat, it was an all original mint car and still had the crappy fan which wasn't even a clutch fan. To keep the temperature down I kept revving up the engine a little and the fan would cool down the engine pretty quick. Well anyway I had to do this about every 10-15 minutes and we still weren't moving anywhere where I could park my car, one time traffic began to break and without thinking I just put the car from nuetral to drive without realizing that it was still revved up since I just took my foot off the gas, the car let the tires loose and jumped forward, luckily I hit the brakes and didn't hit anybody but I noticed my car was shaking when accelerating and of course I had three hot girls in my car with me that I was trying to impress so I didn't want to panic about my baby Cougar. After looking at it I realized I broke a motor mount and I was stuck in the middle of Woodward and I needed to get it home. Luckily one of the girls in the car was wearing a nice sturdy belt so she let me have it and I strapped down the motor with her belt and we made it through the rest of the cruise and home safely. I don't think I was ever so scared about my car and my face was so red in embarrassment.
this is funny
So my buddy has this beautifull 1994 trans am, clean as can be, you know, his baby. One day we are pulling out of a gas station, Well a cop happend by just as we were pulling out, and my buddy was looking in that direction, when the coast cleard, he goosed it and drove right up onto the curb. Beached the car right there, The car was stuck tidertodering on this curb for over an hour and a half, until a tow truck came by and got us off. He lucked out, he only damaged an underbody neon. The best part is, I managed to snap some pics, his face was as red as his car. hahaha

yea that was a great night
it helpd my get rid of my stupid neons though... thing was i just put on my cutout and my driving record was(is) bad so i was being careful with the cops. it was so imbarassing, the cops even drove around the block looking and laughing at me. another punk in a lil 96 ws6 was laughing at me and reving his engine. plus there were tons of hot girls around too.
i promised i would never do anything like that again to my car, so i hit a guard rail after giving blood in my company GTP!!!!!
