We have been up there several times for the Dream Cruise.....always stayed in Troy and really liked the area but the roads in and around Detroit (except for Woodward Ave) will tear your car a new one.

In general, for southern Michigan, the further west you go, the less crime you'll find. Detroit and Flint have relatively high crime. Troy is in the Detroit metropolitan area (~15 miles NNW).

Are you getting a job up here? Where is it? How much time are you willing to spend commuting each day? Is a 40-minute commute on open roads more favorable to you than a 20-minute stint in a traffic jam?

Tell us as much as you can about your needs, and we'll help you meet them.

Im going to be transferring to a best buy up there (location of job depends
on where i move) , 40 mins or less for commute is what im looking for ,
Want to live in a neighborhood with small crime , Less than 30 min
commute for the car/cruising scene , close to people with the same
interests as both of us

We got ya covered

Troy is a very nice area, but traffic is horrible in the morning and evening there.

Let me know what stores your looking to transfer to, and I can recommend some places to look at to live. (Troy and Sterling Heights are usually in the top 5 safest cities in the US)
