Exclamation fixing up a car...

Hey guys......i am 16 years old and i am getting a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am for Christmas..I love all kinds of cars...but i love old school cars better ( 1957-1974 )...I am lookin to make the car a lil bit better in a way that a 16 year old can still drive to school and back to home or work....it has the stock motor...everything is stock but the rims.....i am lookin to get about 400 HP out of it.yea it sound like a long shot but hey i love speed.I dont want to sepnd a lot of money on it.( Maybe $2,000 at the most)...But once i get older and i have a lil bit more money i will start to add a lil bit to it here and there......I heard about this site from HotRodHawk.....and it seems like a bunch of guys and ladys that know a lot about cars a how to hop them up.....so if you could give me a little advice on how to get a lil bit of power out of a stock 95 Grand Am that would be the best. Now keep in mind i dont got a lot of money to spend........THANKS A LOT GUYS

Intake and exhaust are the obvious thoughts. Seeing as i dont know much about grand ams, i would see if there is a turbo kit out there for them and maybe start saving. Or you could just put a bit of nitrous on it.

what motor? 3.4? I think thats like 160hp stock. Hate to say it but there is no way your gonna get 400hp for $2gs

how many miles in it? for that dough your best bet would be exhaust (i think someone makes a headers for it) a cold air intake and maybe a 75 shot. that should net ya like 250hp

1995 Pontiac Grand Am + 400 hp = WHY?

Sell the 95 Grand Am for $2000 save up $2000 and buy a high miles Camaro or TA and rework the engine

Here' my 2 cents. Concentrate your efforts on a GOOD education first. Do the best you can in school and learn a trade of some sort. When you're out of school and have a good paying job, the money willstart rolling in and then you can build the car anyway you want. Going fast =$$$$$$$ and unless you know a lot about wrenching and have a good job, you won't be able to afford to do what you want to with any car you have. .

Then you can build it like this:

You'll never get back a dime that you put into that car... LIke was said wait til you're more finacially secure and get something worth modding. The car you have now is just an A to B ride and you'll look back one day and say "what was I thinking?"

Do you have a job? Can you ven pay for the gas, plates and insurance, oil changes etc.? You first need to learn how hard it is to come by a dollar these days. I'm not saying don't fix it up,I'm just saying don't make that your top priority. You'll learn a lot by working on your car. But you'll be around a lot longer than the car is. Do well in school and learn a trade. You'll thank us later

Regards
Skip

BTW Mike, I've never gotten out of a car what I had into it. Some people do okay buying, fixing up and reselling but I've never been able to. I've found that you can buy a car done almost like you want it for half it would cost to build one.
