Exhaust work

Well I thought I was going to get my true duals installed this morning but they would not do it for me. they said it would hang too low. I wasnt going to argue with them. It was a place called harrys in jackson. Used to be called lentz. They even specialize in custom exhaust.
Looks like Ill have to take it to a performance shop or a place that has done a couple f-body true dual systems.
I have a 3' universal x-pipe kit that needs to be bent into place. It is being dumped before the axle.

Anyone know any places within 2 hours from jackson michigan where I could take my car?

thanks guys

Call ahead of time and make an appointment. He's busy and will need a little notice that you're coming.

Dougs Muffler on gratiot, mt clemens. Did an AWSOME job on my true duals, with NO ground clearance issues whatsoever (except for my hooker LT's). Fair pricing too.

I'll tell you from experience, as the guys at Dougs (Doug Sr. and Doug Jr.) aare good friends of mine also. They will do what you want, but they won't take a long time to do it. You'll get crush bends and mig welds. Diamond on the other hand uses mandrel bends and tig welds. If you're on a budget and just want something that works go to Dougs. If you have $ and don't mind spending it call Diamond and get some artwork under your car

Re: Exhaust work

Whats the number for dougs?

The local place here quoted me 200, but then decided not to do it.

What do you guys think the ballpark figure would be for diamonds...and also dougs?
Would I lose much power with the crush bends? I dont think I would....being the 3 inch dual is more than I need anyway.

I have the kit and all parts needed. It is an all bolt on system. No welding needed except for the hangers.

One more thing. I hear that 3 inch duals is too much for my set-up, not enough back pressure and I will get more drone and loose some low end. I had a thought that maybe getting it crush bent would add some back pressure, maybe cut some drone and help with the low end a little bit.
What do you guys think?

thanks again

Dougs 586-469-0099 ask for Doug Jr.
Diamond Fabrication 583-443-5297 ask for Diamond

BTW call Diamond first, he also knows Dougs and will give you his honest opinion without being biased

Get the best you can afford.. Its work out better later on when you're making more power.

I'd say if you can afford mandrel bent stainless and get it coated it will last you forever but you're looking at some $ there.

I'm going to try and get some pics of the exhaust on my work truck that Diamond did. Its single 3", all madrel bent and tig welded, and it looks and sounds great! He owed me for some detail work and said he'd do exhaust on my truck in trade and thats what i got. He said he wouldn't put his name on anything less

Re: Exhaust work

Mike,
I would be interested in seeing some pictures. Does Diamond have pictures at his shop so I can see their work? I'm getting close to exhaust on my 69 camaro. It sits low with the rear being mini tubbed. Would like to go mandrel bends and as close to the floor as possible.
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: Exhaust work

Mike,
That would be great if you could get some pictures.
Any idea if they perfer to do exhaust work before the car is painted or after it's painted?
Thanks again,
Kevin
