ET predictions

alright, last time at the track exactly same setup as this time. only change should be the temps, and I realize a couple weeks ago that my trans was out of adj. (old school TV cable on my 700r4) so the shifts were slowed down and not full line press. maybe I was giving up something there, maybe not. not like the trans was slipping or anything.

but anyways, last time went 12.08, 12.06, 12.05, 12.15, 12.10. all sixties were in low 1.6x range.

so the only difference was last time 95deg heat. this time should be low-mid50's tomorrow.

what do you think? Im thinking i'll hit 11.8x, maybe even 11.7x. post up any thoughts you got and/or predictions.

ofcourse this would be considering nothing breaks.

Chris, I see you nailing 11.6 brother. That means I need to hit 11.59 to win. I think you are going to kill me on the ET but I should out trap ya. I need a high TRAP or LOW et or Both to impress the boys down in Texas that did my car. Look for me in Tech at 830 am. We gotta run. Man is Dennis missing some fun.

yeah Id be very happy to hit that. you will KILL my trap speed. I'll be traping 114-115 maybe. Im sure you'll be in the 122-125 range. thats why you got a shot to pass me at the end. thats a big difference in speed. hard to see in the vid in my sig, but dennis only beat my etwise by .03 I think, but from my vantage point, he FLEW by me around 1000foot mark. ofcourse that was his slowest run that day. I think he was around 121mph that pass.

Well, I think you should be a few .10 better than last time.

I have been waiting for a long time to line our cars up. I have a feeling they run pretty close.

My guess is: 11.71 @ 114.24

Hey Bill, how much do you think you'd pick up by way of rwhp/rwtq by switching to a ported 90 mm Fast and ported 90 mm T/b ?? Your cam isn't that big, and I was under the impression that Ported FAST 90's shined best when used with a 23x/24x .60x/.61x cam. I still think you could get around 20 rwhp out of the upgrade. Maybe even 25 rwhp. With a cam like yours I bet she idles like a kitten purs !!! I got a bit of lope even with a 1025 idle. Pretty smooth considering. See you in the morning. 830 am in tech so we can go line up.

I am not sure how much I would pick up with the smaller cam. AFR said with a ported 90/90 setup they would estimate 15-20rwhp. It could be more than that but they felt safe saying the 15-20rwhp. The thing they said I would benefit most from is the increased throttle response.

I would like to find out what it would do by it's $1,800 for the 90/90 ported setup. I could sell mine to help offset that cost but it is still to much for my wallet.

I am going to try to sell the car this fall. I need to get out of my house and into something smaller. Then I can play more.

See you tomorrow.

yeah we should be running neck and neck for sure. will be good race. too bad we couldnt line up 3 wide like some tracks WAY back in the day. I saw an old pic in a hot rod magazine while ago.
Id say the cam itself is holding you back way more then a switch to the 90/90. and ofcourse I dont think the power would be worth more then a few hundy cause I think the difference would be less then they do. Id say maybe 5-10 at this point, bigger cam, and maybe 10-15rwhp. \
oh, and bill, cant you change your guess to 11.74, so I'll beat my best time to date of 11.75? lol. Id be soo pumped if I can beat that. cause then you know at M12 it'll go faster with all the things Im changeing for the race.

What was I thinking.... I have redone my estimate on your time, please see my post above. For the record I felt no pressure to change my guess based on Chris's post

My best in Vegas was a 13.7@103 mph stock. That was on a hot day with the track elevation already at 2100' , so the DA factor came out to around 5000'. I looked at the DA correction calculator and corrected the time was a 13.3 @ 107 mph. Now that I have LT's and a canned tune, I am hoping to break into the 12's, since my previous runs all had 2.1 60' times. My goal is first to cut a sub 2.0 60' on the street tires, and at least hit very very low 13's. We will see tomorrow, I get really bad wheel hop when I shift to second gear.

yeah thats def. the problem with those GTO's suspension. I think a solid rear bushing in that support link/control arm fix's that.

good luck we'll see oyou there

I sure hope that the sun warms the track surface fast or you guys will have no traction. 40° makes for good power but poor traction.

If the baro is up then you could run a 11.60-65 with traction.
Bill's car should be running 11.30s at 120-122. He's making more power than me but weighs a few hundred extra.

yeah we'll see here shortly, as Im up and geting ready to leave now. last year, they had the torch's out to heat the track for us. that was later in the year, and an evening rental. so maybe they wont be so prepared to have to do that work for us. we'll just have to see.

still havent looked at all my tickets yet since i got home. but I did HORRIBLE. couldnt manage a single pass w/o terrible wheel spin. I did manage a 1.79 60, and a couple 1.8x's, but unfortunatly those times were only 12.2's. dont even think I got into the 12.1x's. ohwell, I guess I did learn that nitto drag radials are only worth a F@@@ when its hot and sunny out and the track is sticking like glue. I really had high hopes but to no avail. and if you look at my time tickets, there all pretty close to the same as my previous runs, IF you subtract the difference in the 60 foot. one run, I ran 2.2x 60' ,that was a 12.6 pass. and so on for the 12.2's runs were 1.8x 60's. suprised to only see 110-111mph though. figured Id get a few more mph just due to the temp. regardless of the rest of the pass? not sure, but my 3 gear might be starting to slip. I noticed it last night when cruising a buddy around that light throttle acceleration I was goin up to 3000 a couple diff. times when Im normally around 2300. that may explain the mph bleeding off a few mph. ohwell, at M12 I'll have my ET streets. they treated me really well in same temps last fall. and there were some very fast cars out there that didnt seem to have a problem pulling the wheels up. ofcourse they had slicks, but it still gave me false hope that maybe the track was comeing around and warming up?

atleast my buddy bill got some really nice runs in and a new personal best of 11.68. congrats bill. guess it was your day.

It was real cool running against ya Chris. The event was organized pretty well. Did you see the monster that cut a 1.134 60 in the left lane and ran 9.4 at 148.xxx mph ?? Had to be a big block with full slicks and I couldn't hear my car over his exhaust, and you know how loud my car is. He had a BEAST !!!

didnt see that car, but I did seea mustang do a bumper stand and carry it about 100feet or so. was a couple cars back in the staging lanes, so all I saw was the launch/wheelie. infact, I was next to you when he did that now that I think of it.
