Engine Knock....

My buddy just put together his 383 and he has a small engine knock sound coming from the engine as soon as he got it running today. Now is there like a check list or troubleshooting list to find out where the knock is coming from? Thanks.

is he sure he got the clearancing done right on the block? maybe after it warms up and stretches alittle, its contacting? is the oil press. good all the time? does it drop when the eng. warms up? he could also have a spun bearing, and the oil press. would stilll be good for a short time. what about loose timing chain/bolts, or loose conn. rod nuts? Id take off the oil pan to check it out before I ran it at this point. why risk the brank new crank and stuff? not me. hopefully its just somthing he didnt torque properly. also, you sure its not a valvetrain noise? maybe the coil springs binding, or loose rocker/s? could be lots of stuff. good luck.

First thing to do is pull the valve-covers and make sure it's not just a loose rocker.
