Dirtbike guys
I decided im going to buy a new dirtbike this year im 5'9 165 the last dirtbike I rode was a 79 yz 125 but i think it might of been some sort of enduro 185 Yamaha junk with no compression the more I think about it. I want something that will scream and im wondering what you guys would recomend like whats the top speed on a 2003 125 and how much fast is the 250? I wanna go to Silver Lake Sand dunes will a 125 be enough? and how's the CRF 230 four stroke is there any other bad 4 strokes out there? I can handle a big bike but i dont want something i cant throw around in the trails
Dont waste your time or money! Dirtbikes are junk! no resale,so you mine as well be keeping it forever unless you wanna loose your ***. why not just keep on building up your Trans Am? more fun, faster, and keeps the ladys coming!
i do agree that you should buy a used one especially since you don't seem to really know what you want!
i personally think a 250 is to large for you unless you have some good experience. i know it took me along time to learn how to handle that kind of weight. a 125 is a feather in comparison when everything is considered.
for racing i love a hopped up 125, although the 250 is where the real power is at.
for trail riding and all around non-racing usage i don't like to ride anything other than a 4 stroke. they are quieter and the power band is excellent for the trails; but everyone has their opinions right!
unless your absolutely in love with a new one or get a smokin deal i'd definately find one in the paper with lower hours.
good luck!

A guy I work with got a CRF450 . In the past 5 years he got about 3 bbrand new CR250's. He races motocross and does very well. He says the CRF450 smokes the 250 two strokes. His girlfreind is way hot. He gets hot chicks be cause he is a nice guy and is in good enough shape to do well in motocross. A differnt guy I work with OWNS a vette AND a dirtbike. He does not keep in shape, he is not nice ,he does not get much hotstuff.
I would suggest the 250 or a 4 stroke.
The 125 is very "peaky" and hard to keep on the pipe. It is a nice light bike compared to the 250...but thats relative. Check out the manuacturer web page and compare dry weights...
If you want a 125, buy used. You can play with a while, get used to having a bike with modern technology, then sell it and get a 250 new later

Im pretty sure that I can Handle a 250 I mean i dont have to floor the thing. Plus I have drove about 4 different Crotch rockets 3 600's and a 750. I had no problem keeping them under control in the Throttle pretty much i dont wanna get a dirtbike for 3000 and want a new one by the end of the summer. But if a 125 is all a man needs id get one. I kind of wanted to know the top speed and the horse torque difference between the 125 and 250. I think i might even get the new CRF250. I would dump it into my car but im not even going to to be-able to afford the insurance since i loose my license every winter. I'll probley just just Insure it for Ignace and woodward. the only bill I will have is about 130 a month for a dirtbike. So ill still have time for the heads and cam, and a posible sunset orange.
talk to my brother Matt. Davison4@aol.com He is pretty good at finding good deals on dirtbikes. I heard Canada was a great place to buy them for some reason.
He would know more details about it. But at the time, he got a one year old bike 99 Yamaha 125 that was fully modified for racing for 3,000 and its a great bike. Actually, I think he is selling it here pretty soon. He does the supercross stuff all over Michigan with his friends. Its lots of fun.

definately go used; it's not worth it. most riders can't outride older technology in the early 80's let alone the stuff on bikes today.
like i said, it really doesn't sound like you know exactly what you want so to purchase something brand new wouldn't be the best choice in my eye. but you should do what you want.
i don't know what kind of riding you plan on doing but if your into any type of motocross make sure your wearing a chest protector. there are to many guys who go out and try even little jumps without these and wind up seriously hurt or even worst....dead.
if i had enough money to play for a newer bike i'd stick with a lower hour 2-3 year old used one. they can be had for dirt cheap since you loose so much as soon as you leave the dealership.

Yeah they lose value VERY fast. I bought a 2002 Suzuki RM125. I'm about 150 lbs or so, 5'11 and I am basically on the top of my toes barely touching. Since you weigh more and are a tad shorter, the bike will probably be the right size for you as it is for me. I've taken it to real tracks as well and it's plenty powerful! Actually, insanely powerful. I can pull the wheels off in 1st through 3rd no problem. Not ballsy enough to do 4th and up, but you probably can. And I'm not talking popping the clutch or something. You can be in 2nd cruising, HIT IT and bam wheel is flying. I went to a track my dad's friend runs in Ohio and it was a blast! I have been riding only a few years, but with a little practice I was hitting jumps open in 2nd and getting probably 10-12 feet of air (4-5) feet above the top of the mounds basically). I had tons of fun!!! Go with the 125...it will be MORE than enough power...trust me on that one.
hey Trousersnake.........i see you are from Midland, i live in bay city.....i just moved here from FL. your only like 25 min away right? is there any guys running around in the tri-citys with sweet rides? i say....forget the Dirtbike, build up that TA! if you already have your Heads, intake, and Cam why not just go all out with the F-body? and use your 130 a month on Insurance! we will cruise dude! all summer and hit up the tracks and hang outs around towns! im on the look out for a LS-1 so if you see one......lett me know and make a post! see ya this summer!
or......T-snake, im on the look for a new F-body. are you looking to get rid of yours? if so.....list all mods, and maybee post a pic or 2! i have about 15 grand right now but im really looking for a ls-1 but if you already have the cam, heads, and intake maybee you wanna sell that beast! i have cash to put down in her, to make her screem! sell your TA so..if you own it out right you will have what ever your looking to get out of it......+ your 130 a month.....hm..........i smell............03 Hyabussa LOL! just get a new bike! scence you can afford to insure the f-body. what do you think? how much would you sell her for?
I made the Same mistake selling my Last T-A this time last year and almost flipped out once spring was approaching and I Had no Sports Car. I found the Exact Same Car a Year Newer and will probley never Sell it i have it all payed off and its sitting in my girlfriends barn i havents seen it in a month or 2. I dont have the Heads and Cam yet but im deffantley doing but im not sure when. The only reason i wanted a dirtbike is because i have a bunch of property and a bunch of points so i wont need to worrie about insurance. I can help you find a bad @ss Car if you want.
