The dum*** died. He lost it at high speed and ended up hanging the car from an overpass over 696. Amazingly, he was able to release his seatbelt and get out and onto the embankment, but he collapsed and died, evidently at the scene.

Big pic in today's Freep. They were going on and on about how he was travelling at a high rate of speed. Turns out, they estimate his speed to be 80-90. Hell, that's not speeding on 696, that's called keeping up with traffic.

isn't it funny what they sometimes classify as a high rate of speed, or well in the excess of..., or reckless driving....

i may have heard about it wrong, but wasn't he on the road above 696? and wasn't he on the way back from a friends funeral or something?

edit: i just read the article and it did say he was on 696......that must have been something to see! a car traveling on a freeway and somehow getting it's rear wheels on the guardrail of the bridge OVER the freeway......jeez.......

he was on gratiot going north the article said and theirs the white castles. 696 is under neithe the vehicle. what a dumb@$$ it sux he died. but it was a ferd.

"He was driving home from a funeral for a friend Monday afternoon when police say 19-year-old Daniel Maher of Warren lost his life.

Maher apparently lost control of the speeding white 2001 Ford Mustang convertible on eastbound I-696 around 1:30 p.m., Roseville police said.

Michigan State Police said he was in the center lane and tried to change lanes when the car skidded onto the shoulder. The car slid up an embankment and struck a wall, and its rear wheels caught the guardrail along northbound Gratiot. It became lodged at the southeast corner of the intersection. State Police Trooper Firmin Troye said speed was the main factor, estimating that Maher was going 85 to 90 m.p.h. as he drove home from the funeral."

Right, and everyone that goes 85 to 90 mph on 696 is prone to such accidents. A speed of 85 to 90 mph is not the cause for a Mustang to lose control like that. Something else is clearly at cause, but the police will say such statements to scare everyone into slowing down.

the photo just seams to look like he was on gratiot, and then the caption under it makes it sound like it too.
something caused him to lose control or he was just a bad driver.

that photo is sick, to think anyone could survive long enough to get out of the car is amazing. I wonder what funeral he was coming home from, the kid that lived across the street from me had his funeral on Friday too.

Amazing mechanical tragedy. Looked like jackie Chan when he bounces off of wall corners to end up on top of a 15 foot ledge.

No reason anyone should be calling names if you didn't know the guy. He was probably no different than most here.
