Car pulling...

Do you guys have a problem with you car pulling to the side a lot. When ever the car is on a strait surface it is cool, but as soon as there is an imperfection in the road it pulls pretty good to one side or another...

What do you all think???

I've never noticed anything in mine, but it's been five months since I drove her! Is this something that just started for you or did it come from factory that way? Maybe check tires... pressure/tread. Guess there's the obvious, check the allignment too.

Yep, my 94 did it real bad. I had the front end checked out by a few people. It was real annoying. They said it was the wide tires up front (275's).

My brothers 99 t/a with the same tires drove like a dream.
Go figure. I sold the car a year ago and don't miss that one bit.

Yep, mine does it quite a bit. It wants to follow any rut that is in the road.

usually the guys with 17's have this problem because of the wider tires.. they like to follow the road.

The guys with 16's dont notice it as much because of the tire difference

My 3rd gen grabs every imperfection in the road with 245/50/16's all around. I guess it would be considered normal for having wide front tires.

It seem to have started last summer. I still have the factory size wheels on front (245/50/16) and on the back I have (255/50/16). I is just so annoying, it drives me crazy.

It is dependent on tires and how aggressive your alignment is. I used to have a horrible time witht his on the section of 94 westbound just past Michigan ave in Dearborn.

Imagine a two lane road, your lane and on coming traffic. On a straight road, I can put my left tire in the on coming traffic lane (over the crown in the middle) and let go of the steering wheel. My car will never go over the middle crown. I just keep going left to right, each tire touching the crown in the middle then going back. Point is, our suspension is so aggressive (and more important, so equal) that the wide tires in the front "track". This combined with our SLA suspension makes it feel like you are riding in "tracks" right? Dont worry, it is normal, the basic front end geometry of all 4th gen F-bodies is this way. Personally I like it, it adds to the "feeling", which is the reason I own the car.

Unhappy

yeah, my 95 does this too. I have 17" and 275 tires on it. I did an alignment to see if there was anything i can do but to no avail. I set up the front end perfect, but it still does it. ofcourse I made sure there was no other susp. part that was worn causeing it too. Ive been blaming it on the wide tires and lowered front end. I need to get bump steer eliminators to replace the front tie rod ends. thats supposed to help cause when you lower a car, it changes the geometry between the str. rack/tie rods and the road. you want the tie rods/rack to be parallel (sp?) w/the ground, and mine arent.

to clarify, it only does it once in a while. not all the time. sometimes left, sometimes right. if it always went one direction no matter what, that is a pull, and an alignment would correct that (unless you tires are bad and causing it). sometimes its really annoying. but you will get used to it after drivin the car for a while again.

The diameter (vertical) has no affect on the cars "tracking" problem, rather, the left to right (width) element is the culprit. The more area on the tire, the larger the "footprint" is touching the road. Therefore, the more it tracks with the imputities in the road. In top fuel racing (funny cars/ dragster, etc) they usully utilize a very thin front tire to maintain as straight of a line as you can, and very wide tires in back to create a larger "footprint" on the track. Same principals apply on street cars.
