Boom

Hands down this is the wildest nitrous fire on video.
Watch the crew member standing next to the car on the passenger side just before the bang.

Also note the driver took 14 seconds to get unbuckeled and out of it.

NOW I remember why I don't want to put nitrous on my car, and why I'd rather build naturally aspirated .

That's a helluva fire! Glad to hear that the guy walked away unharmed .

Obviously any gasoline engine can catch fire if there's a fuel leak or something like that, but how come "nitrous explosions" are becoming so common? You don't see/hear about regular car explosions like that unless there's N2O involved.

.....or, you run nitrous, I won't, and see who has the higher probability of their car blowing up like in that vid!

Theres only one kind of person that doesn't use nitrous, the mis-informed guy thats scared to death of it. Believe me Pete, use it (the right way) and you'll never look back

I'm not "scared of it" in terms of what it'll do to the motor, but what about cases of explosions like the one above?! I don't think insurance would cover your car blowing up at the RACES while using NITROUS! And I doubt you could sneak the car off into the woods and claim it was stolen either, 'cause too many people would know about it.

...SO, you'd be left with several thousand dollars worth of burnt crap. I dunno, how often does that happen anyways? And is there something that was done wrong (bad install/hook-up, mis-use? ) that would cause a nitrous explosion like that?

Being afraid of your car exploding like that is kind of like being worried about dragracing because you saw a top fuel dragster hit the wall. There is a big difference between the amount of fuel/nitrous being run throuh that car than there would be your car. You do know that insurance isnt going to cover your N/A car at the track either.

Backfires can be pretty serious on nitrous cars, but Ive never seen one actually go up like that before! Usually the force of the backfire extinguishes any flame... Could have been alot of different things... maybe had a wiring issue where he lost nitrous to the car and over fed it gas?

I know, but if I "lose control" of the car, technically I should have been "in control", so it's my fault, not some freak accident.

BUT, it sounds like that's a pretty extreme/rare occurance, so I shouldn't worry about it too much then, eh?
