Battlefield 1942 guys

All you guys that play battlefield 1942, I have a question. Have you ever played the Halflife Mod Day of Defeat?? With the Rook realism pack its 10 times better then BF1942 and about 100 times more brutal! Battles are huge, graffics are awesome and game play is fast. None of this crap with having to walk 15 minutes to get killed instantly by a sniper. From the time the game starts to the time it ends, non stop WW2 battle!! You have to own half-life but the mod is free. Check out version 3.1 on www.dayofdefeatmod.com ... Youll like it! (Plus Im trying to build a server for it and Ill need people to play on it

It's counter strike with WW2 skins, Maps are small and it's " spray and pray" You have to be a REAL team player to play BF1942.

Hmm, I never have to walk 15 minutes only to get sniped. It depends ont he map as some have a little more space between control points than others, but it seems to be pretty nonstop action to me Besides...thats why they put all those vehicles around...to get you from base to base

If I had half life I would check out the mod though....

By the way Jon, I'm gunning for you I'm finally getting some scores like yours in there... I have been hosting 16 on 16 games and I usually come out with 100-150 kills without setting foot in a plane or chopper

How much stuff do you have running in the background? Mine does that if I have something else that interrupts it. I put AIM on away mode so that noone bumps me out of the game and I shut down email.

Also, got enough RAM?

Nothing in background, 1GB of RAM. I've followed every "fix" on EA's website as well as bf42.com .

check your cpu fan, it may be overheating and causing a crash, maybe bad mem too.

thats what happens with a video card or processor thats over clocked a little too fair..

They run great with 3dmark but under a real load for an amount of time that happens

good point.
though when I had mine overclocked too far, 3dmark would kick out to the desktop...bf1942 would just gon insane on artifacting. the screen would look like a kaleidoscope

if you turn vsync on when your artifacting, it'll stop and you can get a little bit of a better 3dmark

I use to play DOD after I got sick of playing Counterstrike.

IMHO, DOD doesn't come close to BF1942. I haven't played it with the Rook pack (?) but I can't see how it can make it that much better.

I've been playing quite a bit of DC lately. The next couple of updates look like they are going to kick ***!

Plus, I just bought an ATI 9700 Pro video card which makes the game all that much better.

Aluminum case and Thermaltake heatsink/fan/memory cooler and my CPU temp never goes above 41 degrees celcuis at full load.

I have a GF2 Ti 128MB DDR video card that isnt overclocked at all with the latest drivers. Runs at 1152x864 reolution 32bit true color @ 60, 75 and 85hz. All the same thing. Crash to desktop after a random amount of time.

I did make one change last night though. I went into the video options and matched up my windows resolution settings with the game settings and turned all the detail to low with view distance at 100%. I played for about 3 hours without incident, so hopefully I fixed the problem.

What do you guys recommend for a good CPU cooler? My CPU runs at about 49 C pretty much continuous.
