Auto auctions

Anyone know anything about auto auctions? Specifically, how to get involved and where? Any info on this place: http://www.autosalvageauction.com/info.html

FWIW, I'm thinking about getting a totalled Grand Prix or something to use for parts in my Fiero rebuild.

Thanx for any info,

Those are dealer only auctions and are not open to the general public. You would have to get with a dealer that has a class B (used car)and class C (salvage) license that would be willng to take you along as a guest. I am not a dealer.

Copart Auction downriver has a salvage auction too, but you have to be a dealer. The best thing to do is hang out outside and ask around. Find a dealer willing to take a $100 or something to bring you in as a guest.

yep that's what i do........typically i give them 25-50 to get in and then depending on what kind of deal i get some extra on the side if i pick something up.

most of the ones open to the public aren't worth going to unless you know the people running them because if they ever get anything good in; you can bet they have some buddies in the crowd working it.

how do you think all your little used car lots make so much money and why it's so aggrivating the prices you know they make off of people.

when you can walk into a place and pick up a 50,000 suv for 10,000 or a rare rebuilt muscle car that's easily worth 20-25,000 for 3-5,000 they don't want everyone to be able to go.

be careful for scams out there that offer you a list of places for a small fee. unless you have connections or it is clearly a public auction you shouldn't go. you might want to check the papers periodically though, police have public auctions from time to time and usually they include cars that they've impounded. that's where you can find some of the best stuff.

I agree with Jeff, impound auctions are the way to go if you have no dealer connections. Watch the Macomb Daily in the auto section, most of the tow yards post them in there.
