anyone spot a rust free Chevette.

I'd like to find a rust free Chevette. Two door.
No engine trans is fine. Preferably a decent interior.
Without a title is fine.
Time to start on a new autox project

There have been two Chevettes at auction at this web in the last few months but I don't see them too often. You can keep scanning every week for something.

The stock suspension is a SLA front, and 3 link-coild with PHR in back. Basically PERFECT.

SM autox rules allow me to do anything I want to as long as I keep the original attachment points. In the back is a little more complicated.

I would add fiberglass hood and front fenders. Front and rear flared with 275's on front and back. Drop in an aluminum headed 4.3 V6.

Re: anyone spot a rust free Chevette.

I saw a chevette powered by a 455 olds toronado powerrtrain this summer: They had put in huge fender flares in the rear to make it fit and it was quite the machine.

Your idea reminds me of high school days, when we were on the hunt for a Chevy Citation X11 engine to slip into our lowly chevettes.

Good luck with your search. The Chevette is certainly underrated, and I hope you find a nice 1976 model. Those are the classics.

My buddy had an old Monza with a built 350 in it. The car was an auto with a B&M ratchet shifter. Talk about getting long long stretches of rubber in every single gear. Now that car was fun.

Umm, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the biggest stretch of the word "classic" ever made at CZ28.com.

PS: You'd better be looking for that rustfree Chevette in Texas. Every Chevette from Michigan has been recycled into new bumpers for Peterbuilts.

Think of it this way: Pretty much every kid who got a driver's license in the early eighties learned to drive in a Chevette. Now they are pretty much all gone. Ours lasted seven years and 100,000 miles, through two kids who roasted four clutches and five sets of tires. Every other Chevette built in the late seventies had a CB antenna stuck to the roof, between beams in the roof rack. Now that us kids are all turning fourty, the long-gone Chevette has become a classic. It was rear wheel drive, and could, with proper clutch popping prowess, whiz off TWO strips of rubber for a good six feet! So, :P at least it wasn't a Chevy Citation pieceocrapobox, or a Pinto, or a >gag< AMC pacer.

razzberries on ya ya just got to get in the nostalgia mood! :P

Re: anyone spot a rust free Chevette.

Bah, I'd much rather have a Citation X-11 coupe. In fact, I've seen them in Hemmings. Not for auto-X, but as far as a 70's-80's performance car, it's in!

Chevette = junkyard dog/tin foil/Peterbuilt front bumper

You might want to PM 'NOMAD' he's got one thats in good shape... he's tossing the idea around of dropping in the 4th gen 3.4L v6 motor since a guy he knows has one for sale.
