Was anyone else at Grattan on Labor Day?
I was at an SCCA Solo2 autocross yesterday (Grattan Raceway near Grand Rapids, MI).
I wish I had raced. I haven't had my car long, and I know there are some tricky corners on that track (a LOT of guys spun their cars into the grass), but they switched the direction they normally run the annual autocross, so instead of a 1/4 mile straight at the start, ending in a tight slalom (so you can get to 60-70 mph before you need to brake), the 1/4 mile straight was at the end, with a ~30mph turn beforehand and lots of room to slow down afterward. I would have crossed the finish line around 125mph!
There were a couple 2nd-gens (one Firebird, one Camaro). Camaro was loud as heck -- babied it around the turns, but did fine once he got to the straight. Firebird wasn't running well. Sounded like five or six cylinders at best. There was an LS2 GTO and a CTS-V, but neither seemed like it was pushing very hard. There was only one 4th gen - a red Z28 (98+), lowered a little and wearing autocross slicks. He had a racing seat, and no other mods that I could see, but he was running in the SM (street modified) class, which means he must have done some pretty serious work underneath. I didn't get a chance to talk to the guy.
Overall, a small showing by the F-body compared to the times I've been there in the past, and with the track direction changed around, it favored the high horsepower cars a lot!
Was anyone else there?
