anybody else looking for a job?

Why in the hell is it so hard to find work?? I've applied everywhere, I've had one interview, and didn't even get the job. The rest of the places I haven't even heard back from. I call them and they say they're going to set up interviews and give me a call. What gives? I'm not applying for skilled job. Only a few that I'm qualified for. I'm 5 credits away from a CIS degree, but I'm not even trying for those jobs. Mostly just stores.

Anybody else looking for work? I haven't gone without a job since I was 16, took a layoff in november when I was 21, so I haven't been in this market for years. It's hard! Unless I wanna go work at mcdonalds....

Luckily no, but I know what you're talking about - my little brother got his degree from U of M almost a full year ago now, and he isn't having any luck either, even at mall stores.

I've never seen it this bad in my entire working life - I'm actually making the exact same wage I was in 2001, and I consider myself very lucky to have that...

Some others and I have noticed "will not retrain prototype techs" appearing in many job listings.
Midas laughed at me last week cause I was a prototype mechanic. I said its on my resume why did you bother calling me for an interview then

Re: anybody else looking for a job?

The economy in Michigan is horrible. Some other states are doing great. I know a lot of intelligent people who can't find jobs because employers would rather find someone who knows nothing about the job but will work for less and stay at the job longer than someone with skills that is using the job as a stepping stone. Those looking for jobs should really dress up their resumes, it seems that the people that are getting jobs are the ones who know how to lie on their resume and bull**** about their skills.
Your best bet is to network. What kind of job are you looking for? There are always jobs at Autozone and other places however they will NOT hire you if you are overqaulified.
As far as the mechanics looking for jobs it is a tough market, send resumes to all the big shops regardless of if they are hiring, you never know what will come up. When places are hiring the window of opportunity is small and it helps if they already have your resume with a good cover letter on hand.

Rest assured that as soon as you find a job or give up that you will get calls. I sent out resumes in November and got job offers at those firms in February so be patient, it takes time.

Good luck to all of you, if I hear of anything I will surely let you guys know.
