Any1 have access to TechII over the weekends?

I'm looking to switch out a guage cluster and don't want to have my mileage incorrect. I'm told a TechII can adjust for the new cluster. Any help would be appreciated!

PM Valvegod (Sean) on Corvette Forum, he owns smcperformance (they have a website ) and he has a Tech II. He's in Auburn hills. He might charge to use it, not sure.

techII wont help you. either its a signal from the pcm, and it will automatically read correctly cause all your doin is changing the display(digital odometer) or you'll have to have the new cluster mileage reset bya certified shop like Specmo. thats who we use at our dealership.

That's good to know. There's a couple of posts over on LS1Tech that claim otherwise saying a TechII can re-link the gauges with the PCM to update the mileage as long as the battery wasn't disconnected. There are also a few claiming you can move the odometer portion from one cluster to another. I wonder how accurate that is?

Ideally, I bought a used piece to get rid of the el-cheapo white faced gauges that are on the car and to ensure the needles are pointing in the right direction. Any inside info you know of, Chris, would sure be helpful.

you sure the white face gauge doesnt just apply over the stock gauge overlay? as in, you could remove the needles, and just peel the overlay off? thats usualy how they are. I forget, but the LS1 gauges are digital or no? it shouldnt be that big of a deal to fix your orig. cluster. even if the orig. face is gone, I can get you one from specmo Im sure. the needles really arent that big of a deal to get back on in the proper place. just takes a little time to get them exact. or close to exact as can be. I dont know when Id have time anytime soon, but maybe I could just help you do that one day. Id only charge you $500 ok? lol.

I'm pretty sure the stock overlay is gone. The white overlay doesn't light up at night anymore and the wiring under the dash looks a little iffy. Kinda makes it hard to see how fast I'm going at night and I don't know if it's accurate because I don't think the needles were put back together right. If the piece I ordered comes this week, I'll probably be able to answer a few of my own questions. But, if I need to have it "reset" to work with my car, how much do you think they would charge?

well if its something I can do with the tech II, like setup the new cluster so your bcm recognizes it(I dont think it should need anything though) shouldnt be any big deal. if you have to send the new cluster out to have the miles reset to match your true miles, Im not sure, but I can get you a quote. call me tomorrow.

actually, turns out your right. I guess I can do it with the techII. I'll have to look into it. see if I have to reprogram the cluster or bcm, or if its just something I can do in the special functions for the cluster. go ahead and bolt it in.

Cool...we'll have to work something out for sure then.

Good luck at M12!
