1st time at track--are these good, can I get more?
Went to Milan tonight my best run was 13.8 at 103.8, 60 foot time was 2.352, reaction-783. I was hoping for just a tad more, but I think my biggest problem could be my launches. Is this a good mph, can I get a few more tenths out of it. ---Thanks
I hit a 13.7 @ 99.3 at Stanton on a 1.878 60'. With your MPH you should be good for about 13.5 on average. With a new convertor and a 60' like mine I would say you could hit low 13's.
Thanks for the input guys, I was looking at my tires, and I noticed they are on the border of the wear indicators, so some new tires are in order. I wish I would have gone to the track sooner, it was more fun than I ever could have imagined. I figured I could hit better ETs cause some of the cars I raced had better 60 ft, same ET but lower MPH like 98. A converter is out of the question for me cause I have the 6 speed. I have a new respect for you guys that can cut such good 60 ft times, I found it impossible, most of mine were 2.5-2.6. Its almost an art to keep consistent runs all night. Friday I shall try again without the mufflers and see if I can get any better
a 104 mph could net you a high 12 with ease if you had better traction. and btw , I have a set of 26 x 11.5 x 15 street et's for sale if you want that 12 sec time slip before the track closes Im near Ann Arbor
good luck
Doug
PS: what happened to my "senior membor" status?
they treat us classic car owners as red headed step childs here heh heh

a couple of questions for you???
what tire are you running?
what rpm do you launch at? (it is easy to launch an auto)
in the wife's car i have run 13.57 @ 101.24 with a 1.91 60', that was accomplished with Nitto drag radials...love them!
your mile per hour indicates a much better et, and well your 60's can improve. it is hard not to smash the gas pedal isn't it
when you launch that is. with some practice no reason you can't get 2.1 60's on a stock type of tire.
g'luck, the best part is practice practice practice

I have bridgestone patanza's RE 910-stock size. I was launching at 2000 grand, I think I launched at 3000 once and really lost my ET. It might sound stupid but I had a hard time doing a burnout in the box, I wasn't sure if it would help with street tires, but I figured it would be good practice, and I will need new tires come snow time anyway--so burn away. The problem was I couldn't keep the RPMs from skyrocketing in an instant, I think next time I will try it in 2nd gear--any suggestions on heating them up, and is it worth doing it to street tires
IMO, street tires only need a tiny burnout to get the water and crud off from the water box. If you launch in Second, you may just bog. It sounds like you're dumping the clutch and flooring it, which is alright for slicks. But with street tires, you want to slip the clutch off the line and then mash the gas once the clutch pedal is all the way out. If you do it right, you'll probably need to shift into Second almost immediately after the clutch is completely released. Think of it this way: something is going to slip. Once the tires lose traction, you're screwed, but you can control how much the clutch slips... And soon it will be time for a new clutch
I had the same tires, Bridgestone Potenza RE-910's on the car taner speaks of. The best I could ever get was 14.1 with a lousy 2.3 60'. The RE-910 is a good street tire for normal driving, but it's fairly hard and will spin with little efffort. You may want to try the 730's, I have heard they hook better than the 910's (if your getting new tires that is).
On another note, who did your true dual setup? I notice you are right in the area. I've been thinking about it since I put the FLP's on... Would like to check it out some day if that's possible.

I did the duals myself cause I've got a welder, its a cut and hack job, but it works and doesn't leak. I was having problems with my welder I could'nt weld half an inch without it cutting out and I could'nt get a clean bead, just a globing mess, come to find out it was the outlet I was working from was not suppling good current. It was so bad(thought it was all me) that I enrolled in a welding class at college, to make sure that never happens again. Anyway I wouldn't pay a shop, they all wanted 350+ bucks, your welcome to check mine out, heck if you want to use my welder no problem, just let me know what day
I have them in the well between the side of the back seat and driveshaft, they are four inches in diameter like most mufflers, but since they are round it really takes up less space since they are not underneath those low backseats like regular mufflers. I am pretty satisfied with them, not to loud at idle, and a lovely sound at full throttle, and only17 bucks to boot. The only problem is I think they're a little heavy, I estimate 8 pounds each. They seem like they will last forever, and the sound has improved as they have aged. Agreed they do rock. At first I was afraid of getting them cause people said they are open header loud, but not so. one day i wil take photos and sound clips
they are 4 inch outer diameter, the inner is 2.5 My exhaust has three inch coming from the headers into the X and after that it reduces down to 2.5, so they are not that loud compared to a bigger pipe, good enough for me. They are the thrush cherry bombs advertised in summit, the red bombs look great under my silver car, I was tempted to try those bullit mufflers, but I fear they are much louder, and for the street I want to keep my sanity, I left them bolted on so I could take them off at the track, if I really want to, of course I do have some homemade cutouts made from plumbing pipe with caps, so I guess it doesn't matter. I have read that of all the muffler designs that glasspacks are some of the most freeflowing if not the most.
Yup. People who like Blowmasters will tell you you're all wet, but nothing outflows a straight pipe (except a bigger straight pipe). You just have to make sure the glasspacks you buy have a perforated center tube (like Thrush does) instead of louvers punched in toward the center. All the best-flowing (and best-sounding) mufflers like MagnaFlows and Dynomax Ultra-Flows are really just oval-bodied glasspacks.
