progress on the next "project"
progress on the next "project"
Well its spring and I am off to a late start but I belive I will be back in the game in 2 months or so. I went to the machine shop this morning and dropped off my deposit and the heads.
A few weeks ago I dropped off a 4 bolt LT1 block, its all cleaned up and its checked out ok. Needs the normal machine work but no cracks or major problems. Not a bad deal for $150 on a local ebay deal.
I bought a set of heads off this board from a reputable board member who did his own port job. I took a gamble going on nothing but his honesty and reputation. They were supposed to flow 260/210 @ .600 from all of the work done to them already. My machinist said he doesnt think they will flow that well but from looking at them the port job was not bad at all. They already have a set of Comp 977 springs, Ti retainers and 7/16 ARP studs. Looks like I might need new valves for them but I was thinking of going with a little lighter valve anyway.
Now for the plans. building a 355 with forged eagle crank and 6" rods. Compression in the 12.0:1 range and going with a custom SR cam. (Jax, tell Rick he talked me into it
) Adding a NX kit capable of giving it a 200 shot for those ocasional heads up races I like to do.I'm keeping the stock PCM so 7000 rpm will be the max, hoping to keep it just under that anyway.
I have been working on the car and stripping as much weight from it as possible. I have torn into the wiring harnesses and took out probably 50lbs of wiring. I just hope it runs when I get a motor back in it
Right now I am trying to figure out how to completely delete the BCM from the car.
Looks like 4 weeks till the block and rotating assembly is ready. We have to wait for some data on the heads and deck height on the block before we decide on pistons but I am probably going to go with Diamond, JE or Ross. Who ever makes the best piston for my application/price range.
I picked up a few valve train parts. comp 1.6 rockers and girdle with cast tall covers. Slowly gathering supporting parts. Melling oil pump and drive shaft, new O2's, ARP pan studs, misc gaskets, head bolts, ect... I still need to make a decision on an oil pan, should I shell out the $ for a canton or try a stock pan. I'm leaning towards a new canton right now. Still need to find some SR lifters too I think the comp endurex lifters will be a good choice.
So hopefully I will be able to get the car back out on the track in a few months. I'm sure once its in the car I will have to find someone to tune it. I think tuning this myself might be out of my league. Any recommendations?

I'm sooo happy you've started your new project!!!
Anything that isn't broken or too stressed, let me know. Bahahhahahha.
Hey, if you check out "axceleratedmotorsports", let me know, it's only a few miles from where I live. I'm thinking of going up there in a couple of weeks to get a dyno to see what the tune has done for me.

Re: progress on the next "project"
right now nothing that Ron doesnt have the rights to. Ron is picking up my old cam and rockers.
Afer I am finished I may have an LS1 DS, custom Y pipe, a bunch of stock stuff that was removed for weight purposes, 10 bolt with 4.10 gears... thats all I can think of right now. I'm sure more will go later on.
