Philly area emissions ??

Well, they've finally done it. They goingm to bring emissions testing to central Pa. To all in the Philly/Allentown/Pittsburgh areas that already have the stupid test, what's it like? How hard is it to pass? What does it cost? They said something like $40 just for the emissions test, is this correct? Does having aftermarket intake or exhaust cause a problem?
Thanx in advance for any info.
about emissions.

my suggestion is find a hook up that will give you the stickers for double the price, lol.or someone who will run through another v8 car b.c after doing major motor work like heads and a cam theres no way in hell your passing.last year i passed and i had all the mods in my profile.

The test is pretty hard to pass if you have any kind of mods. If you want to be legal you can spend $150 in documented repairs after you fail the first time, and even if you dont pass the second time they have to write you a waiver. It aint cheap though.

How many miles do you drive per year? I was just under 5k with mine last year and I got an emmissions exempt sticker now for $25 I just have to keep it under 5K/yr and I don't worry about emmissions anymore, which isn't a problem since it's not my daily driver now.

Does the exempt sticker go for every where in PA. Ilreally dont driver my car, I put about 2500 miles on it in 5 1/2 to 6 months. I mean my average trips to the gas station are every 2 weeks. Hmmm...did I mention I dont like emissions.

It's that way for Chester Co, I know the testing regulations vary by county, so I'm not sure if they all allow the <5k exemption. I would just call your local inspection shop and ask.

I normally spend $80 for inspection and emissions and my boyfriend works at the dealership. My truck always passes (naturally ) though.

its about time other counties are feeling the pain that we have delt with for a very long time J/K, as long as your car is running good you shouldnt have a problem

i live just outside of philly, in montgomery county and its cost me about $80 or so to get it dont and i have no problems passing the test. The rule is if your car is driven 5K miles or under then it is exempt for the emissions test and all the you would have to pay for is the sticker.

Berks County is starting the testing in January but it's only a visual. If I'm not mistaken most counties in PA are visual only. Even some that have the sniffer now are changing to the visual only. If anyone has a problem passing the visual let me know and I can point you in the right direction.
