Ok the LT1 is finally going to get some mods. I was thinking of eithier Mac or RKsport headers so i can pass emmisions. Has anyone passed with LT headers and a cat placed somewhere on the Y-pipe?

 

many have passed with LT's as long as no does a visual inspection. Will these LT's have emission fitting and such to retain the AIR and EGR? If they will be then I don't see it being of issue again, unless someone does a visual. If you are removing the AIR and EGR, then you are going to require some tuning if you have OBD-II to make it pass. I've passed without EGR, Cats, AIR, and a big cam with LT's. I love the plug in inspection.

lucky bastard.. i had the sniffer. I didnt pass with a cat welded in my exhaust after the y-pipe at one place but then i took it to another and they said they could get it to pass. Its all a matter on how strict they are. You can easily put the s****** sensor a few feet away from the exhaust.. its just will they do it?

 

Yes my LS1 passed the same way. The plug in. But its ODB1 my LT1 is ODB1. I might just go with the macs

 

there are little cats you can put in the y-pipe and it should be perfectly legal

LT's are not legal in NJ period. Even with all the emissions hook ups and cats they will not pass a state inspection. You might get lucky and pass a visual but the problem is that if you ever get caught driving on the street with them you can get into some big time trouble and some major fines for it. Youre bettr off just getting a shorty header thats CARB approved for a street car.

 

some gass station/inspection places will pass you for a extra fee.....

thats how i got mine to pass....

 

I won't find out for another 2 years...I had mine inspected, and got my LT's/Offroad ypipe installed about a week later.

 

its your luck, u might, i passed emissions with a cutted cat in jersey, if i failed i would go to a smaller garage that does them and pay them off

 

that guy, has the right idea. its so much easyer to just pay a small personal owned inspecton station, slip um a grant and youll pass every time.

 

Well I would do this but i heard once you fail emmisions its harder to pass at a private garage. I dont care about spending money.. can someone please send me the name of one of these garages please. Tired of driving my LS1 everyday gotta get the LT1 back on the road

 

if you fail, they put a red sticker on your windshield, that tells them to do a re-inspection of what failed and not the entire thing.

If you fail at the dmv, pull the sticker off and go to a private shop, they won't know any better, and just do a normal inspection (they can't do reinspections if you fail, if they know that is)

one of "these " shops are very hard to find nowadays. Since the state started a crack down and they are out there doing the same thing you are. Going to a random shop and waving bills in their face will most likely have them nervous and tell you to leave. The state has been doing this for the past few years and closing down any shop who does it. I've had 2 local shops sutdown in the past year for passing bad vehicles. Sometimes they just set up inspections by phone and other times they try to pay them off. Either way if the shop does it they are finished.

You really gotta know someone these days. So that the shop knows your not the state. Otherwise they will lose their license and the state will shut them down in a heartbeat.

Oh and if you go to state first and fail its all recorded by VIN mumber now. Just pulling the red sticker off doesnt mean squat. When your private shop applys for your new sticker and shows you passed (especially for a previous emissions failure on a Camaro) it throws up red flags at the state and they may investigate. Again putting the shop at risk and they will not do it. The shop will find this out at the time they try to get the new sticker.

Its just not like it used to be. The inspection stations operators are actually looking for this stuff now. They have training on what cars to look for and what a stock exhaust looks like. Theye are not stupid anymore.

Your best bet is to find a shop who will do it. Not an easy thing to do any more. Do not go to the state if you even think you might fail. Especially if your trying to sneak an illegal exhaust system thru the cracks.

Also be carefull and keep an eye out for the NJDOT mobile inspection teams. If you get stopped by one of them you are up the creek with out a paddle if you know what I mean... you will have to sell the car to pay the fines...
