Have any of the New York guys had any problems with emmissions yet? Ive been hearing its suppossed to get pretty tricky for the OBDII guys.

 

Hey man. I just learned all about it at college. Theres going to be an OBD2 computer check as part of the NYS inspection. They're also talking about using a 5 gas analyzer as part of the inspection. If you have an OBD 2 your check engine light on is grounds for an inspection failure (this already started in november). All inspections have to be recorded on a video type and kept filed for like 2 years. As of this time I dont know what the price is going to be, all I know is it starts in july of this year. Thanks for the update Paul. Looks like I better get an inspection by July than. Do you still know if its going to be as easy to just get a sticker like before without an inspection?

 

I gotta bring this one back for some discusion. The 5 gas analyzer didnt make it threw (thank god) and neither did the video camera idea NYS had going. I found a slight hole in the system on getting a free sticker. after you complete the inspection it asks you if inspection sticker was sucessfully affixed to windshield. If you select no and select sticker damaged it bypasses that sticker and you scan the next one. If you got your hands on the bypassed sticker then you should be good to go. NYS says you have to keep that sticker in the inventory just incase a rep comes and asks for the sticker. I dont really see that happening cause they hardly come when you need tech support. and your sticker wont match your reg. which also poses a problem.

Has anyone here tried getting an inspection with a 96 and newer car with an LT4 hot cam and some head work. I'm just alittle worried about this inspection thing myself. I want to build a quick engine, but not so quick that it wont pass inspection. Fill me in on some of your NYS 96+ cars......

 

I just passed my car 1997 Z28 with aftermarket dual cat y-pipe and slp headers and a magnaflow catback!!!

 

My SS sat for a while and now I've been beating on it running good gas and taking off dumb bolt ons to get it to pass... all for a bad converter light off or some other BS... right now It's annoying since I go to jail for 90 days if I get another no inspection ticket.

how many no inspection stickers have you got already... It must be a few if their threatening to put you in jail, lol


oh for what its worth im going to sit down one of these days and see how well I can scan one of my inspection stickers and print it out on some photopaper using some of this High Res software, I dont think it will be too hard once I have it saved so i can change the color accordingly.

Oh Bret were going down to carlisle this weekend and are probably going to come back home through Elmira, Jus wondering if your going to be at the shop, were probably going to stop in and cya and get some dinner somewhere if you want to meet up.

Hey John. get some good photo paper and we'll give that one a shot. I'm going to go with the hot cam and just mill the heads down a bit to get a little more compression out of it. It sucks that a cant go wild with this engine I'll still have it up at the track though...soon....lol

Yeah will see how it goes, If it works it would be cool since we know a buch of people with cars that wont pass inspection but if it ever gets figured out tho when they scan well have dozen cars with the same inspection number lol

also if you find the same car ex: 97 z28 w/mods for inspection . we'll say this car wont pass but your buddy works at the shop doing the inspection ... car # 2 is also a 97 z28 fully stock that will pass 100% ... What you can do is scan the reg of car #1 (97 z28 with mods) and then hook the inspection pc up to car # 2 (97 z28 fully stock) the computer cant tell this isnt the right car as long as its the SAME MODEL AND YEAR .. the car will pass...



Theres ways around it ...

also if you spend more then $250 on repairs to get it to pass, they will issue you an inspection and some waiver paper saying you put this much money in it to get it to pass and it still wouldnt, I guess they let you go til next year ....

ahh nys inspections....

I thought it was 450 dollars.. but maybe not. That aint a bad idea tho you would be even better off if you know somebody who works at a garage who can work out a fony labor receipt for x amount of dollars and use that.
