Ok guys, what's legal, what's not, and what are you getting away with, and how??? I'm sick of not having tint on my car.

Back can be as dark as you want it, sides can't have any. I had the sides tinted, but I had to pull it off to pass inspection. Even the garages around here won't pass you for that, but if you fail emissions they'll pass for cash??

I'm gonna get it redone 5% all round. The cops here are pretty cool and usually won't bother you. If I see a cop in time though, I'll usually just roll em down. No need to attract any extra unwanted attention.

So basically, if I get the side windows tinted and roll through the inspection place with the windows down and they don't check, I'm good. Otherwise, I'm paying for a tint job every couple of years on the side windows???

2 doors, you can only have the back done. But it can be as dark as you want. On a 4 door, the driver and passanger windowns cannot have anything on them, but the rest of rear windows can be as dark as you want.

And NO, if you roll thru a state inspection facility... they will check your side windows. Last time I went thru them was about 3 years ago and I figured "what the heck, its worth a shot to roll em down". If they failed me for it, I would have just went out into the parking lot and pulled it off, then drove right back into the reinspection line. To my suprise there was this semi-hot girl checkin in the inspection station! So when I rolled in I started flirting a bit... I forgot to take off my tail light covers and she took them off for me and stuck them in the trunk. I was like . So then she starting doing all the other checks, lights, horn and what not. She then walks over to the passenger window and says... "windows up sweetie". Now its the middle of May a beautyfull 75* day so the T-Tops were off and everything... I took the window and put it up about an inch and rolled it right back down. This girl just looks at me and I just kinda turned my head the other way and smiled... you know that thing you do when you pretend you didnt see anything... well to my suprise she bent over into the car a bit and wispered... "keep them down till you home" So I did and she passed the car.

I still say its because my middle name should be "stud muffin"

So, if you goto a state facility... chances are they will check and fail ya... but the moral of my story is that you have nothing to loose by trying. Maybe they will "forget" to check that time. If not you have to go out in the parking lot and pull it off and go thru again. Then go re-tint the window again. Most garages wont do it cause its too easy to get caught, and much easier to just pay the $50 to have the 2 windowns re-tinted every 2 years.
