New best for the Project

Well I had a blast at E-town today for the EFI event. QTP set up a quick 8 race and I jumped in for the fun. .400 pro tree heads up racing is fun.

On to the good stuff. My winter projects included the new trans from CPT and a restall on the Yank to 4000. Frank the trans is hitting 2nd perfect. Nice clean hard shift. I can only imagine it on the street. This thing is behind a 4000 stall and I can still feel it hit

I moved some weight around and removed a few items from the car for weight reduction. The car weighed in at just over 3300 lbs with me in it.

First pass on the new setup 1.57, 11.81@112
second time went 1.57, 11.90@111

I think the track started to go away at this point because my 60's just werent there. Ranging from 1.63 to 1.66. 11.95, 11.96 and an 11.98. As you can see the car was slowing down but the 60's were also as the day went on.

I still seem to have an ignition problem at about 5600. It just sounded like it was starting to break up. Could be a problem with my newly rebuilt MSD 6AL. I'll have to look into it later.

The only other real problem is that I thnik my relocated battery is a problem. I used 2awg cable for the pos from the battery back up to the starter. I dont think its enough. When I crank the car it acts as if the battery is going dead and the solenoid is chattering and causing the pnion to pop in and out. Its a voltage problem that can be corrected by a bigger cable.

Last but not the least I have a fault code for my O2 sensor. I dont understand how 1 went bad over the winter but its not impossible. And since I have to replace them anyway I tossed in 2 gallons of leaded 110 fuel. Just to see if the car picked up any. my cheap way of seeing if there is any real knock.

I know there is more in it because I had the cutout closed and I need to go back to a 3.73 gear. Maybe with some luck I can rebuild this 12 bolt and see an 11.6x by summer.

Not bad for a cam only LT1 huh? I gave those LS1 boys a real run for their money. Mainly by killing them on the tree. I deep staged on the pro tree and cut .100 lights while everyone else was as .300+ hehehe

Re: New best for the Project

well he was having problems along with everyone else as teh track went away later in the day. I saw 2 of his runs that he had to get out of the throttle for tire spin at mid track.

The new concrete seems to be real good but its going to take a few weeks of racing to get the track back. The starting line is already covered in new rubber. Its the rest of the track that will take some time.

BTW, yeah I took some weight out of the car but by looking in it you wont notice much other than guages in teh dash where the radio and HVAC controls used to be.

Re: New best for the Project

Nice way to start the year. I'm without a Camaro to drive again this year. Sold the 68 LT1 car last year in Oct and sold the SS454 pickup in Dec. Hopefully the 69 Z28 will be finished this year and then I can spend some money on a fun car.

Brian, very nice times. The car will be .1 quicker in a shallow stage. and maybe a .1 with open exhaust. My pump gas 383 is only a tad quicker. MAYBE.

Re: New best for the Project

Yeah thats partly why the times slowed down a bit. I staged shallow my first 2 runs. after that I was in deep. I figure Atco with similar weather and the exhaust open... I could squeeze an 11.6x out of her

Re: New best for the Project

I'm using a used set of GM gears, a GM auburn style posi (not the Zexel torsion one), carrier is held in place with studs and a T/A cover. I also welded the tubes to the housing and I am running a 3" truck stud to hole the wheels in place. I also set the gears real tight at .004" backlash. They wine alot that way but it makes them much stronger. Besides... I cant hear the wine over the roar of the open exhaust I also have Sphon relocation brackets welded to it. Been holding up just fine for 2 years now. But I if all goes well I will rebuild the 12 bolt this year and toss it in there for insurance.
